Jamcl Still an actor and entertainer, Buckwheat as all his friends call him appeared in more than 30 "Our Gang" episodes.

He will be remembered as the tiny little guy with white cotton bows tied to his plaited hair. Every time the gang was terrified the i would cut to Buckwheat, his eyes bulging, to watch his hair stand on end. "People always ask mc about my hair standing up," Buckwheat said, laughing. "The series is still shown all over television. "I had wires tied to the end of each braid and they ran down my back to my shoes which had metal cleats, something like football shoes.

On cue I'd step on an electrified screen. "About two volts of current would hit the end of those wires and cause my hair to jump up. It didn't hurt, and it got a lot of laughs." Buckwheat will appear on Steve Allen's syndicated show with a film clip from one of the old gang serials and a pocketful of lore about the early Hal Roach days. "I joined the gang in 1932," Buckwheat recalled. "I was 10 years old, but very small for my age, thank goodness.

"Once in a while they put a dress on me and I played a little girl named Birdie. I got the name Buckwheat from the buckwheat sack I wore in the earliest episode. "I guess nobody sees buckwheat sacks anymore." But they still see Buckwheat Frazier on the tube. "Whenever people discover my identity they ask for autographs," Frazier said. "Especially the kids.

They still love the gang. "As for racial integration. We were always one happy group of s. We didn't have many other playmates because we spent most of our time working. So we were a gang off-screen and on." Buckwheat does not recall how much he was paid for his early acting efforts.
