979-6953 ANN ARBOR, Mich. (APJ Harlan Huckleby might sound like someone who should be selling chicien on a raft in the Mississippi River. But before his football career is through at Michigan, he could become almost as famous as Colonel Harlan tlie fried chicken king, Huckelberry Finn. IKicMeby is a 17-year-old irishman tailback for the He's got 9.5 pfed in the 100-yard dash, but adds power and finesse'-to that speed on the Jield. Technically, he is third behind Gordon Bell and; Rob Lytle.

But Lytle is 'Michigan's starting fullDack and sometimes moves to tailback when Bell comes out. When Lytle stays put, Huckleby is the No. 2 tailback. Bell gained 100 yards and, scored two touch- W11A landings downs in the first quarter of Saturday's 69-0 romp over Northwestern. Lytle switched to tailback and rushed for 105 yards.

He scored twice in the second quarter. Then it was coach Bo Schembechler's choice to turn Huckleby loose before the home crowd, He ran 23 yards on his first carry, 27 on another and before the game was over he had rushed for 157 yards and scored two fourth-quarter TDs. "Right now, I would not be afraid to play Huckleby in any ball-game at any time," Schembechler said. "He won't even be 18 this year. He's a young kid.

But he's a nice, young kid," Schembechler said, breaking into a grin. "If Bell makes me mad, he's got problems." Schembechler said Bell jokingly said 'to assistant coach Jerry Hanlon in shower Saturday, "Coach, my name's Gordon Bell. Do you remember me?"
