PUBUCBVIWING APPROPRIATIONS Mr Mahone (Rep Vt) moved to take up pub lic building bills already favorably reported Sir Conger (Rep Mich) objected to any bills being taken up out of their order on the calendar Among the bills passed was one extending the limit of cost on the Detroit public building to 1300 bub also a bill to increase tne appropria tion for a building at Marquette Mich to S125 000 In the course of the debate Senators Palmer of Michigan and Morrill of Vermont expressed the opinion that the government could make no better use of its money than eonslrc cting buildings where proper aud so avoiding the pay ment of rent ASSISTANT SECRETARY THE NAVY An ineffectual effort was made to have the bill providing for the appointment of an Assistant ISecietary of the Navy cum ideied PENSIONS At 2 o'clock the General Pension bill was placed before the senate and Mr Vest took the floor He said the soldier who risked his life and limbs lor his country was entitled to have the damages incurred by him repaired by his country If bis life was sacrificed ids last hours should be cheered by the confidence that his loved ones should be cared for by his country in whosecause he had died 'J his was a contract between the soldier and the nation and the nation that would not keep I hat contract as a siicred obligation deserved to be blotted out from the map of Christendom How well the people of the Cnited States had kept their contract vs as evidenced by the votes of Senators and Representatives from South and North which had already given c'OOOUuOtU to the Union soldiers of the' war between the United States and the Confed eracy The Southern soldi' rs aud people had borne without amurmurtheir share of the taxes necessary to euabe the nation to keep the con tract and the Southern soldiers their widows and orphans had never asked for any thing ex cept tue right to weep tor their dead and to de iwra me purity 01 purpose lor wmen tlieir hart died Tlie anxiety of both read a letter from a ciami agent to an ex soklier urging him to apply tor an increas pension It was no wonder that brown stone house and immense fortunes hail sprung up and attested the activity and zeal ot those peupe Mr Vest undertook to say tliai the luOOOO Union soldiers of Missouri had not demanded this legislation He referred to the neglect ot Mexican soldiers and criticised tl course ot Mr Logan and Mr Platt in connection with the amendments proposed to pension bi Is Mr Logan said his course had been due to tne fact that bo believed the Mexican Pension bill was meritorious of itself and should pas on its merits In re I erring to the revolutionary war and the period at which pensions were given the sur vivors Mr Vest and Mr Hoar differed as to the date fien tlie war closed Mr Hoar emphasized the accuracy of his citation by reminding Mr Vest of a fact that he (Hoar) thought would commend itself to many of Mr con stituents That fact was that Gen Washington at the time cited by Mr Hoar had celebrated the event referred to by the issuance of double rations ot rum to the soldiers Laughter Mr Vest retorted that Ma sachusetis had made much more out of rum than Missouri had It he was not mistaken rum bad been the prin ciple staple in the trade of Massachusetts tor a great many' years Trading rum tor negroes and selling the negroes to the South had so en riched the people of Massachusetts that they had ever since been on subjects of both negroes and rum aud they were now undertak ing to a large extent to prohibit rum after hav ing exterminated slavery Mr Vest criticised the course of the Senate in passing a large num ber of private pension bills without even read ing them Air leller said the government had made a contract ith the soluier that if he received in jury he should leceive compensation for It That was as acred as the contract to pay the bonded debt of the Union It was complained that we had paid over 000 in pension We had paid to moneyed en more than three times that sum as mere interest for the use of their money in putting down the rebellion and were paying the principal besides We had done that because we had no right to repudiate our honorable obligations were such obli gations any more sacred than the obligations we had incurred to the men whose endurance and patriotism and sufferings had saved the nation? ortunately we were able to keep our obligations of both classes Mr Logan said he had never heard an argu ment that he considered reasonable wliv a dis abled soldier yhould not have a pension The argument always had been first the amount involved and second that pension agents were building houses No pension agent Air Logan said could get a pension for a man who was not entitled to it as it any answer to a deserving claim fora pension to say to him he could not get it because it was advocated by an agent? This "red had been flaunted long enouglu The government that ould allow a poor dis abled soldier to beg on the streets because an advocated his claim or because it would cost something to relieve him would not be worthy of the heroism and devotion which our soldiers had displayed The people of the United States would never consent to such a course Mr Morgan submitted an amendment to be moved by turn at the proper time providing that pensions covered by the bill and not provided for by existing laws should be navable only out of money to be derived from internal revenue and requiring the ecretarv of the Treasury to report to Congress in December 18CS what per centage of taxation on the capital stock of cor porations would be sufficient to pay the ex penses incurred under this act but not to in clude corporations organized to promote re ligion chai ity education morals or health tor any corporation of leas capital stock than 000 After an executive session the Senate ad journe4 till Monday rniaraa tejd Dr 1 ll Mayer Ease at no operation or uelav from btDi ness: tested bv hundred of cures Main offi je 631 Aixfi rEllada AC Stanatoi iMAifiCt Drtroit ath c'cucii moatU R1T Instant relief inal cure la ten day 1 1 1J 1 JkX and never returns purge no salve no suppository Sufferers will iea nof a simple remedy ree Ly addressing MASON 78 Nassau PEmBSYM The Original and Only Genuine ate and cl war Reliable Tlewereot wartlitee IxBiLxdone LADIES Aek jeur DrUieiu Ibr i liz4ii eter Esgliah'! take bo other or Iu umc 4c utttr toro malL NAME PAPER CJMchemtcr Chemical 24 8 rquar) PhUudtu Ha by everj herv Ask for thkhee tera Penny roy id PilU Take umer travelihg coffee salesman Having an estatHidied trade to seh roasted coffee 1 10 packages wanted only first class men with prime reference will address MA YE It EltUS CO Pox 2VP9 New York I am now 49 years old and have suffered for the last fifteen years with a lung trouble Seve ral members of my family on my sido of tho house had died with consumption and tho doctors were all agreed in their opinion that I had consumption also I had all the distressing symptoms of that terrible disease I have spent thousands of dollars to arrest the march of this disease I have employed all the usual methods not only in my ow case but in the treatment of other members of my family but temporary re lief was all that I obtained I was unfit for any manual labor for several years By chance I came into possession of a pamphlet on and bkin from the office of Swift Spe cific Co Atlanta Go A friend recommended the use of Specific claiming that he him self had been greatly benefited by its use in some lung troubles I resolved to try it About four yeare ago I commenced to take according to directions I found it an Invigorating tonic and have used aliout fifty bottles The results are most remarkable lily cough has left me iny strength has returned and I weigh sixty pounds more than I ever did in my life It has been three years since I stopped tho use of the medi cine but I have hail no return of the disease and there are no pains or eakness felt in my hug 1 do the hardest kind of mechanical work and feel as well as I ever felt since 1 was a boy These I know are wonderful statement to make but I amain honest when Isay that I owe my exig ence and health to day to Swift's Specific It is the only medicide that brought me any perma nent relief I do not say that Specific will do liis in every case but most positively af firm that it has done this much for me and I would be recreant to the duty I owe to suffering humanity if I failed tibeaf this cheerful te'U monyto the merits of this wonderful medicine I am well known in the City of Montgomery ana can refer to some of the best citizens in the city HOLT Montgomery Ala June 25 1S85 Specific is entirely vegetable Treatise on Blood and Skin Deseascs mailed free The Swift Specific Co Drawer 3 Atlanta Go or 157 AV 2ki st A number of ars be prouonnred JN AS D1T10N Bars) tnclnilinir all fittin and labor LaUuted Dec 1st lu and improved April IssG Cost of AIK31AX i cr car (tnoDraw MiiCOjtSlGliaLl) Ok LSb Bl THE IlATEBOAB COMMISSIONER OE MICHIGAN HEAL E8TATE TRANSACTIONS The following of real estate transfers reroried May 14 1Si5 is reported by IL Burton Wayne vouniy ADstract Office: Cobb to John Long the of a of sec 9 Twp of Canton to Le iance lot 11 ot of lot I 7i Sp hunreUs Ked field ex aL to Jt sse Rsyniond the iot y7 ani IV ft of lot of 95 to le' ooi i idee farm Augw tman Raymond pc oi lot i ot I 8 to IOS of Woodbrdge farm Jonn Gentle to Paul Nadeau gt of lot 2 sub of 729 Elia a be ie to Ela DKlett iffts'liand ISA'ft yib of lot 2 of sub of lots 5 and sec OS 1000 at John to Mai tia Rajer'the e'C' Vof J4 see 17 A baexus to rank Vacha lot iW Johuitoii sub evoort farm Hamtramck 1 eter Andie to Horn lor zs and 24 Johnston Joreph Can pau farm ''tu raoke?
