The buying in beans could hardly have been called aggressive, but it sufficed to lift prices as much as 2 cents. Otherwise, the market's performance was a pretty sick one for those who would like to see prices go higher.

After a steady opening, a slow downward trend set in. Mainly, it resulted from a lack of demand. Final prices were up fractionally from the day's lows. WHEAT CLOSED lower, corn to 1 cent lower, oats lower, ryeA lower to higher, and soybeans to 2 cents higher. A better tone to soybean oil and cottonseed oil futures helped soybeans.

Cash bean oil remained unchanged at 10 cents a pound. Some analysts feel the oil situation cannot get much worse, and they express hopes of an upturn in demand. Corn had to meet light but steady hedging pressure. Cash prices sank as much as 2 cents. Weather was warmer and wetter in much of the midwest and the five-day outlook was for higher than normal temperatures.

Some traders felt this might increase shipments of high moisture corn. Despite the slump in futures, cash oats jumped 1 to 3 cents. Receipts continued very light. No. 1 heavy white oats sold at a premium of 12 cents over the May contract.

A little buying in new crop wheat futures was noted early, based partly on mildly pessimistic crop reports from parts of the Southwest, but this soon died out. T. Elsing, the lawyers, asked specifically that the judge order the jury stenographer and court reporter to disclose Cooper's testimony, questions asked Cooper, and remarks made by the prosecutor and grand jurors. The law permits disclosure of grand jury testimony when or- dered by the court in "furtherance of justice," the lawyers argued. They said they needed to look at the testimony in order to properly argue a motion previously made by them to dismiss the charges against Cooper on the grounds that a person can't be prosecuted because of immunity by law given to a grand jury wit ness. THOMAS CROAFF attorney for James Walker, former city jailer indicted by the jury on charges of mistreating a jail pris- oner, asked Superior Judge Lockwood to dismiss three misdemeanor charges against Walker on grounds that Walker had been granted immunity by law because" he involuntarily testified before the grand jury.

Judge Lockwood will hear argu- ments Monday on Croaff's motion to dismiss. Judge Barry will hear arguments on Primock's and Elsing's motion to dismiss Feb. 6. The city corporation of Glasgow announced Thursday purchase of his latest work, "The Crucifixion," for 8,200 pounds ($22,960) for the city art galleries.

The painting is in the traditional style, although it depicts the crucifixion from and unusual angle from above the head of Christ. It isn't real surrealist, like "Debris of an Automobile Giving Birth to a Blind Horse Biting a Telephone," an earlier Dali work that raised eyebrows even in more sophisticated centers than Glasgow. Glasgow art students protested immediately. So did several -members of Britain's Rayol Academy. Donald Bruce, representing 200 art students, said "We think it's a shameful waste of money."
