Daily Gazette. Monday, April 4, 1966 Trial Begins in 5-Fatal Case The reckless homicide trial of Mrs. Joyce M. Weber, 25, of 351 S. Ringold opened in Rockford today before Judge John S.

Ghent in Winnebago County, 111., Circuit Court in connection with the five Beloit and South Beloit, women killed in an auto crash Dec. 8. The trial is being conducted before Judge Ghent inthout a jury. Mrs. Weber was named in an indictment retunied by Winnebago County Grand Jury, Jan.

4, which charged her with five counts of reckless homicide as the result of the fatal crash that killed five women and injured three others. Mrs. Weber waived her right to jury trial, and has been free on $200 cash bail. Mrs. Weber, mother of two children, was seriously injured when the car she was driving slammed Into the side of a station wagon carrying seven women home from work at the Admiral Corp.

The coroner's jury concerned itself only with the four women who died at the scene of the crash. The grand jury indictment charges that Mrs. Weber drove the auto which failed to stop at a stop sign at U.S.

51 and crashed broadside into a station wagon causing the death of five of the seven women passengers. Mrs. Weber, alone in her auto, suffered a fractured knee cap and cuts and bruises. She underwent surgery a few hours after the accident on the injured knee and her recuperation from the injury has delayed opening of the trial. 2 Badly Injured in 1-90 Crash Two Chicago men were reported still in serious condition today at Mercy Hospital where they were taken after a one-car crash late Saturday afternoon on Interstate 90 at the Highway 26 overpass Louis Langfield, 35, driver of the car and John Schultz, 54, were said to be in serious condition.

A third man. Harry Corry, 49, also of Chicago, was reported to be in satisfactory condition with les; and facial cuts. State Patrolman Francis Vickerman reported that the car was entering 1-90 from the southbound Highway 26 lane. The car jumped a curb and struck a bridge abutment. The car was demolished along with a cargo that included 70 dozen eggs.

Michoel Quinn DELAVAN Michael Quinn, 82, a florist at Fontana 40 years until retiring six years ago and moving to Delavan, died Saturday in the Walworth County Hospital where he had been a patient two years.

Born in Lake Geneva Aug. 27, 1883, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Quinn, he married Catherine Gaughan in 1907 in Lake Geneva. She died in 1953.

He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Ann Scully, Winnetka, III, and a brother, Edward, Whitehall. Services will be at 9:30 a.m.

Niemuth DELAVAN Arnold W. Niemuth, 53, of Rte. 1, Delayan, owner-operator of an accounting and business consulting service here since 1962, died last night after a long illness. Born in Chicago Feb. 17, 1913, the son of John and Augusta Jans Niemuth, he married Eleonor Keller there March 15, 1941.

In Chicago he was a member of Jaycees, Junior Achievement Club and chairman of a school board. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Delavan, and active in its men's groups; active in scouting and a member of the Toronto, Canada, Board of Trade. Surviving are his wife; and three sons, Howard Chicago, and Robert and James, both at home. The Rev. Donald Wilkie will conduct services at 12:30 p.m.

Wednesday in Our Redeemer Church and at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Carl Schlerf Funeral Home, Chicago. Burial in Bohemian National Cemetery. Friends may call at the Betzer Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and at the Schlerf Funeral Home from 7 to 10 p.m.

Wednesday. Mrs. Almo Carlson EDGERTON-Mrs. Alma Carlson, 77, former rural Edgerton and Janesville resident, died yesterday in a Janesville nursing home after a long illness. The former Alma Gabrielson was born May 1, 1888, in Manitowoc, the daughter of Die and Anna Gabrielson, and was married in 1908 at Marshfield to John Carlson.

He died July 4, 1963. Wallace Babcock, of Dunmoving Mobile Park, Rte. 2, Delavan Township, died of a heart attack Saturday in the Smith Home Appliance Store, Elkhorn, which she and her husband owned and operated. Born Nov. 15, 1911, the former Eleanor Huster spent her early years in, Elkhart, with her parents, Max B. and Laura Geyer Huster, living in Elkhorn from 1928 until 1931 when she returned to Elkhart.

She was married to Wallace Babcock April 25, 1935, in Delavan and had since made her home here. She was a member of St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church and president of the Rector's Guild; member and past president of the Elkhorn Garden Club; a member of the Order of Eastern Star and mother advisor of the Rainbow Girls; and a Girl Scout leader for many years. Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Mmes. Ruth Carlson, Omro, Peggy Slack, rural Elkhorn, and Carol Collins, Janesville; 10 grandchildren; her father.

Max Huster, Elkhart, a sister, Mrs. Mary Gould, in Calfornia; two brothers, Robert and Walter, in Her mother died in 1948. Services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in St. John Church, the Rev.

Scanlon ELKHORN-Arthur T. Scanlon, life resident of Elkhorn and area, died this morning in the Walworth County Hospital where he had been a patient one year.

Born April 23, 1881, in the Town of Lafayette, the son of Michael and Mary Rogers Scanlon, he farmed until 1928 when he sold his farm and moved to Elkhorn. He was employed for some years at Fairbanks-Morse Beloit, until his retirement. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Holy Name Society. He never married.

Only survivors are nieces and nephews including Francis Burns and Mrs. Louis Hensen, both of Elkhorn. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Patrick's Church, the Rev.

Town of Magnolia, April 27, 1887. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at a family gathering in 1947. Mrs. Bienash died Oct. 20, 1949.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Charles Hamack. Janesville; two sons, Frank Center Township, and Louis, Janesville; nine grandchildren; 12 grandchildren; eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Paul's Church, the Revs. M. C.

and I. T. Droegemueller officiating. Burial in Bethel Cemetery, Center Township. Friends may call at the Reining Funeral Home tomorrow night and at the church from 1:30 Wednesday until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Olive C. Berg Olive C. Berg, of 1034 Church a lifelong Rock County resident, died Saturday in Mercy Hospital, Janesville, where she had been a patient one week. Born July 13, 1886, the daughter of Walter and Anna Fern Wheeler, she married Knute C.

Berg June 28, 1912, at Shopiere. She was a member of Assembly of God Church. Surviving are three sons, Robert, Janesville, Walter, Crystal Lake, III, and William, Clinton; three daughters, Mmes. Alfretl Palmer, Woodstock, Willis Fishburn, Harvard, and George Allen, Beloit; 24 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Edward and Alfred Wheeler, both of Janesville, and George, Monroe. Services will be at 2:30 p.m.

He and his wife, the former Ella DoU, marked their 50th wedding anniversary March 16. He was a member of the Oakland-Sumner Farm Bureau. Surviving are his wife; a sister, Mrs.

Mrs. Ernest Rahn LAKE MILLS Mrs. Ernest Rahn, 87, a resident of the area the past 62 years, died Saturday in Watertown Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Bom Feb. 26, 1879, in Germany, the former Martha Kortte was the widow of Ernest Rahn who died in 1950.

Surviving are three sons, William, Walter and Ernest, all of Lake Mills; a daughter, Mrs. Frank Eilenfeldt, rural Lake Mills; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a great- great-ggrandchild. Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Moravian Church, the Rev. Wilbur Behrend officiating, with burial in the Moravian section of Rock Lake Cemetery.

Friends may call after noon today at the Ristow Funeral Home and after noon tomorrow at the church. Edward Wojtkunski Jr. PALMYRA-Edward M. kunski Jr. died at birth Friday in Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital.

Surviving are his parents, Edward M. and Mary Ulrich kunski; a sister, Debra Lee; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ulrich, Palmyra; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Leonard Barfknecht Leonard Barfknecht, 60, of Rte. 2, Janesville, died unexpectedly last night in Edgerton Hospital. He retired from Janesville Sand and Gravel Co. five years ago because of failing health.

Born in Waukesha Dec. 1, 1905, he was the son of Leonard and Louise WoUin Barfknecht. He married Loraine Becker in Milton Sept. 21, 1933. Surviving his wife; tour sons, Leonard Rte.
