DE YIERNES A DOMINGO Seventh Avenue Plans Held Up Efforts of residents in subdivisions south of the Salt river to have a portion of South Seventh avenue added to the county highway system were halted temporarily yesterday when the board of supervisors denied the petition on advice of the county attorney. The petitions asked that a portion of Seventh avenue from Southern avenue to Watkins road be made a county highway so that it could be improved.

There were no protests against the portion between Southern avenue and Broadway, but the city and property owners protested the portion from Broadway to Watkins road. The county attorney ruled that it would not be proper for the supervisors to grant part of the request in the petition. Petitioners were advised they could file a new petition and indicated they would do so. The city opposed extending the north portion because it passes through the city dump, which eventually would have to be moved. m. today on construction of nearly 10 miles of main trunk sewer lines on the edges of the city to serve newly annexed areas and areas which are seeking to come into the city. The plans, as prepared by Headman, Ferguson and Carollo, engineers, provide for construction of 1,300 feet of 36-inch vitrified clay sewer pipe lines, 22,500 feet of 15-inch lines, 12,000 feet of 12-inch, 15,800 feet of 10-inch, 3,460 feet of 8-inch and 220 feet of 6-inch. The two smallest sizes are incidental in the project which' will cost about $275,000 as estimated by the engineers. Most of the larger mains will be used when collection lines are installed in the various subdivisions by improvement districts.

Part of the big lines will be used to take care of the overload on existing lines. The expenditure will be a part of the $2,500,000 sewer expansion program for which bonds were voted last year. E. W. Montgomery, superintendent of Phoenix Union high schools and -president of Phoenix College, asked that plans be pushed so that the school could be ready for use next September. PLANS FOR THE school to cost more than $1,000,000, were presented to Dr. Montgomery yesterday.

A 40-acre campus with buildings arranged in a quadrangle is planned. The "quad" idea will make the campus distinctive from other Phoenix high schools and Phoenix College campuses and similar to that at Stanford University, Palo Alto, Calif. Present plans call for a liberal arts building which includes, in addition to liberal arts classrooms, administration and guidance offices and a library. ALMOST CONNECTING with the liberal arts building will be the auditorium. There will be a science building, shop cafeteria and boiler house, gymnasium, baseball grandstand and football field.
