Hays James Thomas Hays, 81, a passenger agent 50 years for the New York Central in Columbus, Ohio, died Tuesday in Scottsdale Baptist Hospital. Mr. Hays, 5146 E. Pinchot, came here five months ago to live with a daughter. He was a member of the Shrine, a Masonic lodge, the Consistory and Passenger Club, all in Columbus.

He was born in Enfield, Ill. Services and burial will be in Columbus. Mercer Mortuary in Phoenix announced. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Howard Winkle of Phoenix, Mrs.

William Rowe of Greenlawn, N.Y.; three brothers and a sister, all out of state; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Deaths Of Note Leonard T. Beale PHILADELPHIA (AP) Leonard T. Beale, 85, former president and board chairman of Pennsylvania Salt Manufacturing died Monday. Beale served as president of the firm for 20 years until he became board chairman in 1949.

Spencer Hanes Jr. WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) Spencer B. Hanes 53, an executive vice president of R. J.

Reynolds Tobacco Co. since 1959 and chairman of the board of its subsidiary, Penick Ford died Tuesday.
