i JIJiHiliffl a a cj Educational TV Expands Programs ARIZONA STATE University's educational Channel 8 iKAET-TV) has some exciting new programming planned this fall. Saturday programs will be broadcast for the first time. One Saturday offering will be the "Richard Boone Repertory Theater." a dramatic series originally produced on CBS. Another popular network series. "Profiles in Courage." will be seen on Tuesday nights.

KAET also is working on possible programs concerning guidance for the Phoenix Union High School District in line with its policy of contributing to community education and awareness. Its programming ranges from such varied topics as "Gardening for Fun." which recently passed its 100th taping, telecourses for college credit, dramatic offerings, and jazz. KAET went on the air Jan. 31, 1961. as the 52nd educational TV outlet in the United States.

FROM STUDIOS in ASUs College of Engineering Sciences, the VHF channel broadcasts 50 hours per week, reaching an audience in Maricopa County, but also carried by cable to such communities as Flagstaff. Pres-cott. Yuma, Ajo, Globe. Miami. Casa Grande.

Coolidge. Kearny. Clifton. Florence. Eloy.

Show Low. Springerville. Blythe Calif.) and Lordsburg i.VM.i. During the summer, broadcasting hours are 7 to 11 p.m. except for a popular panel discussion show.

"Thursday at Nine." which often runs past midnight as viewers telephone questions or comments to a panel of experts. An important aid to community relations, the panel show offers fich timely topics as air cancer, alcoholism and civil rights. The station also broadcasts ASU telecourses which this year will include music, business mathematics and two Spanish courses. Personal finance will be rerun next spring. About 2.000 students per semester register for the telecourses.

However, there is a considerable number of viewers who watch the courses for non-credit. Over 1.000 textbooks were sold last year to non-registered students for the Spanish course. 55 View from confrol room KAET's modern sucios at Arhona State University shows live performance being taped for later broadcast on Channel 8. The educational television station broadcasts about SO hours per week and this fall will include Saturday programming.
