They were wondering what could be the reason for the mysterious shortage that is being felt by all the studios. One director felt he had the answer or a heaping contribution to it: "It's simply that the old-time women stars won't give up," he declared. "The big heroine parts still go to them, whereas they long since should have been relegated to character roles.

Let's face it: we still have the same big-lime glamor stars we had 15 and 20, even 23 years ago. They're still demanding to make love. What's worse, want to make love to lads many years their junior. "You can't blame the ami. bltious kids for staying home Instead of flocking here as they once did.

Pictures are fewer and those that do go into production get the same old faces. We are committing slow suicide by no longer making picture careers attractive for the teenagers." Others pointed to recent' surveys which show that Hollywood movies now attract the great bulk of their patronage from the 15-to-35 age category. They also prove that, despite the ballyhoo still showered on the veterans, the new and youthful audience wants to make its own stars not be forced to watch those their pops and moms (now gone over to television) established. During the last five years, the studios have brought to marquee fame a dozen or more young male prospects but just try to count the outstanding members of the opposite sex who have made the same grade! You become stymied at once. Meantime, who still gets the plums? The Colberts, the Stanwycks, the Rog-erses, the arsons, the Craw-fords pick your own slate-r-they're doing very well.

They still reign as the top favorites with the men who run the front offices. TCppn Awiv Peter F'wch and star in "Make Me An Offer," movie at avjj xxvYoy Adrienne corri the KiVa, starting Wednesday. i i mi' vy RADIO TIMETABLE By WILLIAM D. LAFFLER NEW YORK (UP) The death of the silent movie almost struck a mortal blow to the pipe organ as a purveyor of popular music, but Hollywood soon got the idea and made a number of organ shorts. The community sing, with pipe organ music and the bouncing ball giving the audience the beat, soon became a popular sound movie diversion and it brought Jesse Crawford Into the nation's theaters. THROUGH the years Crawford's name 'has been synonymous with great organ music. And now that hi-fi has become standard phonographic equipment, Crawford's music sounds more grandiose than before.

RCA-Victor has released 12 evergreen numbers by Crawford on its Camden label. Among them are "Carolina Moon," "Gypsy Love Song," "Giannlna Mia" and "When Day Is Done." The album is packaged as "Pipe Organ Music," and that It is. Another Interesting pipe organ album has been released by RCA-Vlctor on its own label It's called "Through the and features Ernestine Holmes at the console.
