Observer says: Murdock who has been railroad supervisor for the Southern railway on the Midland road for the past few years has been promoted to the position of roadmas ter over the Mooresville division with headquarters at Winston Sa lem By the promotion of Capt Murdock the company has secured a roadmaster of much ability always faithful to duty While Capt Mur dock will have offices at Winston Salem he will continue to make this his home and his family will remain Mr Murdock whom his earlier acquaintances know as plain is an Alexander man and in his young days was a mechanic at now lives in Pittsburg Pa arrived here last night with the body of his brother Mr Lester Arthurs who had been shot to death in Pittsburg These young men are nati ves of Iredell and were reared at Arthurstown near Ostwalt but for several years they had been operating a large shooting gallery in Pittsburg unable to get details of the tragedy but said the man met his death from a stray shot at will make himself known A little black mule belonging to Alexander Bros ran away Tuesday night with an empty buggy The raule had been hitched in the rear of the store on Broad street and when a negro boy attempted to put a new bridle onit the mule jerked loose and ran up the street to the square A number of bystanders gave chase and the mule with the buggy made several dashes about the street be their annual meeting Tuesday Hon urches was chairman of the meeting and Dr Harril 1 secretary Seven hundred shares of stock were represented in person or by proxy As the bank recently increased its up a loaded gun by the muzzle and it was discharged by the hammer striking against something The thumb of his right hand was shot off some shot took effect in his mouth and face Drs Hill and Phifer of Mr Adams of Texas who is here on a visit to his mother Mrs Mary Adams underwent an opera tion for appendicitis at the sanato rium yesterday His condition is favorable Mr Adams of tliaaenite vicinity was thrown from a buggy by his mule running away 17 days ago and his shoulder dislocated Wednesday night he was brought to the sanatorium by Dr Leeper of Hiddenite and the dislocation reduced Mr Adams went home yesterday morning Mrs Ivy Bowman of the vicinity of Taylorsville who was operated on at the sanatorium Monday is improv ing Mr Killian of Catawba county and Mrs Sharpe who lives near Lenoir will be operated on at the sanatorium tomorrow Mr Payne of Taylorsville was in town this week with Mrs Payne who is under treatment at the sanatorium and who has been seriously ill Dr Hollar of Taylorsville was in town Tuesday to see rs Payne Olin Man In Trouble Mortgaged Properly He Didn't Have Shirley razier a young white tnan of Olin township was arrested Wednesday and placed in jail to an swer two serious charges Some time ago razier made a trade with Mr Conger and gave as secu rity a mortgage on a mule a wagon etc When the mortgage fell due razier was still due Mr Conger about $65 A deputy sheriff was sent io take charge of the property but was alleged that it did'not belong to razier at all A warrant was then issued for razier for securing goods under false pretense The other case against razier is of a similar nature Recently he went to Mr Holland who con ducts a storeat Olin and proposed to sell Mr Holland a lot of oats Mr Holland agreed to take the oats and let razier have about $11 worth of goods with the understanding that the oats bedelivered nhxtday ra zier did not makegood however and is charged that he had no oats Messrs Holland and Conger pro posed to razier yesterday that if he could arrange to raise the money and pay the costs of theproceedings the case would be dropped An ar rangement was effected last evening by which razier was released Ausley vice
