Howard Grant Shives, AZ passed away Howard was born on October 27, 1919 in Gosport, lowa to Johnathan and Prudence (Perry) Shives. In 1942 he entered the army and was honorably discharged in 1945 as a PFC at Camp Grant, Illinois. He married 85 of Prescott, January 31, 2005. Elsi Myrtle Wickman on March 7, 1945 in Seattle Washington.

They raised a family on their farm in Bothell, Washington. Howard was employed the Shopping News in Seattle Washington for 27 years as a newspaper pressman. After moving to Phoenix in 1975 he was employed at the Mesa Tribune and he retired from the Arizona Republic also as a pressman in 1981. After retiring they made their final home in Prescott. His warm personality, conversation and humor will be missed by all who knew him.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father of 3, grandfather of 5, and a great-grandfather of 4. He was predeceased by his wife Elsi of 55 years. He is survived by his three children, Ronald D. Shives of Phoenix, Dennis R. Shives of Burbank, Washington and Sharon K.

Rob Wainwright, long time respectjazz drummer in the Valley since the 1960s, passed away in his home on Jan. 30, 2005. She passed away in Peoria, Arizona, on August 21, 2004. Ruth converted to Catholicism at an early age. She joined the Sisters of St. Joseph of La Grange, Illinois, as a teenager. She left the convent before making her final vows.

Ruth met Frank Weszely, who was serving in the World War Il military, on a double blind date with another couple. She and Frank fell in love and were married only two weeks later. They were married close to 50 years at the time of Frank's death in 1993. Ruth and Frank moved to Arizona in 1952. Soon thereafter, Ruth began work as a housekeeper, cook and administrative assistant, to Fr.

Thomas Lambert. Ruth helped Fr. Tom serve and start several parishes in the Diocese of Tucson (until 1969) and the Diocese of Phoenix (after 1969), including St. Maria Goretti (Scottsdale) and Our Lady of Joy (Carefree). When Fr.

Tom became the Purchasing Director for the Diocese of Phoenix, Ruth went to work at the Chancery for him. When the Diocese decided to outsource purchasing, Ruth and Fr. Tom started Parish Purchasing Services, which served parishes, priests and religious in Arizona, other parts of the United States and in other countries. Ruth continued these services from Fr. Tom's death until her demise in August 2004.

Ruth was active in Business and Professional Women for many years. She was the President of the Capitol Club of BPWAZ at the time of her death. Ruth loved her three cats, who kept her company. Ruth is survived by her niece, Sheila George (Washington); sister, Mary Edith Calhoun (Washington); brother, Leo Fleishman (Arizona); members of her husband's family in Illinois; and nieces and nephews; grandnieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews throughout the United States. She will be missed by many priests who called upon her for good company and jokes, as well as altar clothes, books, chairs and other necessary items for their parishes or communities.

She was a wonderful addition to our lives in so many ways. Our hope, which springs eternal, is to hear again her laughter. Geraldine R. S. Young, 70 of Laveen, AZ passed away on January 26, 2005.

She was born October 8, 1934 in Laveen, AZ. She was a homemaker and a cook.
