i r1 10 WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 5, 2000 AROUND THE VALLEY The Arizona Republic Say Goodbye to Dentures and Partials Have hand in northwest village planning Volunteers needed for North Gateway, Deer Valley panels Implant dentistry can be an effective alternative to problems caused by full or partial dentures. Call Richard Feldhake D.M.D., member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry for a free consultation such topics as transportation, parks, employment and schools. The two main issues facing North Gateway are rezoning and attracting businesses to the area to provide decent jobs for residents, Balcom said. Village planning committees meet once a month in the evening for several hours. Members also get packets of information to review in advance, which takes two to three hours, Mofford said.

To volunteer, contact your council member or the Mayor's Office. The boundaries for each village overlap council district boundaries, and appointments are divided proportionately. North Gateway is the farthest north of the city's 13 villages.

It was established in 1997 to focus on the North Black CanyonInterstate 17 Corridor Plan and to review rezonings in the area. It is bounded by 67th Avenue on the west, the Union Hills on the east, the Central Arizona Project Canal on the south and the Phoenix limits on the north. Deer Valley's committee area is bounded by 16th Street east to the city limits at 51st and 67th avenues on the west, Greenway Road on the south and the Central Arizona Project aqueduct on the north. North Gateway currently has only nine members, but it could have up to 21. Deer Valley has 15 members and needs more.

The committees may have 15 to 21 members, according to the city's Web site, but can function with fewer. "Our involvement has led to some better development," said Robin Mofford, a member of the Deer Valley Committee for four years. For example, the committee has suggested safety and design changes that have improved how apartment complexes are built, she said. Another accomplishment of several village planning committees is their collaborative creation of a trails map to ensure that developers preserve the trails, Mofford added. "At the same time, we're trying to guide development, we're trying to preserve open space for our future," she said Committee members divide into smaller groups devoted to $4,000 to senior home Family Physicians to New Location Physicians medical practice has Primary Care Center at 75th Avenue 101Beardsley Road.

Consider volunteering to serve on a village planning committee, which represents the interests of residents to the Phoenix City Council and the Phoenix Planning Commission. The two northwest village planning committees North Gateway and Deer Valley need to beef up their membership. "We are struggling to fill the vacancies," said Larry Balcom, a member of North Gateway. "Long-term, the work we do will affect everyone up and down the freeway, all the way downtown." The only requirements for Teen gives By Jim Gintonio The Arizona Republic Sally Brambach turned a little club on the Cortez High School campus into one of the most active volunteer youth groups in the Valley. With her work and effort came rewards.

So when she was named one of the Hon Kachina Volunteer award winners, she knew exactly what she would do with the $4,000 that went with it. A few days ago, she turned the check over to her favorite group, northwest Phoenix's Senior Village. The 20 residents now will be able enjoy some amenities that would otherwise be impossible to obtain. When residents of Senior Village, 3541 W. Vogel, heard about the amount of the donation, they gave Brambach a loud ovation.

That's one of the main rewards she gets from her many hours of volunteer work. "So many people have negative feelings about teenagers," said Brambach, a freshman at Northern Arizona University. "I know it's not true. I had friends who wanted to get involved, but they A cursed classic "The Comedy of Glamis," and "The Unmentionable" are just two of the euphemisms actors used to avoid mentioning the title of William Shakespeare's Macbeth because of the curse associated with "The Scottish Business." What curse? At the play's premiere on Aug. 7, 1606, the boy actor cast as Lady Macbeth collapsed from a fever and later died.

During the same production, the original Macduff was accidentally stabbed through the eye and killed. Over the centuries, "That Play" has been blamed for everything from pub-he mayhem to heart attacks. See if the curse still lingers Thursday at the opening of Macbeth at Arizona's Classical Theatre, Cactus High School Auditorium, 6330 W. Greenway Road, Glendale. The play runs through Jan.

The average age of its residents is almost 90, and many have been there 10 years or more.

The money that Brambach donated, said Linda Martin, the vice president of the foundation, will help the group buy some extras. "It's volunteers like Sally who really make a difference," Martin said. "We have about 600 employees for the 28,000 people we serve. We really rely on them. I'm not surprised that we have kids involved.

We solicit kids for all our community-based programs." Brambach also started a Halloween carnival at Alta Vista Elementary School a couple years ago, and the last drew almost 1,000 people. Brambach is majoring in elementary education and special education at NAU. She led her dormitory, Cowden Hall, in an adopt-a-family project that netted 518 items.
