This is his first attempt at a really adult story and he does it with candor. The story itself, which can be described as a period romance, is about the wedding of Mary Tudor to the aged king of France, whom she tried to kill off before the wedding is consummated so that she will be free to set her cap for a young guardsman. The story could have been sensationalized, but praise be to Mr.

Disney it wasn't. We'd be inclined to leave the kids at home for this one, too. Later in the; week at Fox is "Island in the Sky," which is also a pretty terse drama involving a crew of five fliers who are forced down in a snow storm on an unchartered frozen lake in the northern part of this continent. From there, the story moves back and forth between rescuers and stranded playing the one group against the other. There is no phony baloney amongst the stranded ones.

They reflect, by turns, their stark fear and their flickers of hope that they'll be found. Only big name is, fortunately, John Wayne. It's based no, it's a distillation of James Jones's best-seller and the movie is a best seller, indeed, judging from the smashed records at boxof ices elsewhere. As almost everyone "who reads is aware, the book deals with army life just before Pearl Harbor and concerns itself with Robert E. Lee Prewitt (Montie Clift) who refuses to join the boxing team because he has once killed a man in the But acting in this one is something wonderful and strange.

Every single member of the cast emotes just the way you'd want them to emote brutal, tender, amusing or tempestuous. The movie itself is in the nature of an emotional jag for the viewers. Our. own plaudits for acting go to Frank Sinatra, who doesn't croon once, but does a magnificent job as the litte Italian-American soldier. Others in the cast are Burt Lancaster (Sgt.

Warden), Deborah Kerr (the captain's wife), Donna Reed (Alma), and Philip Ober (the captain). This is for adult audiences only. At the Fox is "Sword and the Rose," which was based on the story, "When Knighthood Was 1.1. 1 ll.JIU be oversold-see itl I il JZl I jl 1 cSSP I i I Prices this enracement only: JEAN HAGEN POLLYBERGEN iniauwittiiHawiiM DON'T MISS HIM IN THP HOMP.SWFFT HOME RIOT! Alfred Hitchcock, who says it took him five years to work up courage to go on the serious diet which he now observes, also reported one reason it was necessary. Several years ago when he lost considerable poundage, he went to his New York tailors and ordered six new suits for his new figure. Then he hastened back to Hollywood, forgot about his diet, and was soon back to his usual hefty poundage. With the added weight Hitchcock couldn't possibly fit his rotund figure into the new haberdashery. So the.

six naw suits are still hanging, unworn. And Hitch is madly dieting while he directs "Dial for Murder" hoping to trim down his weight to fit the wardrobe. Laurence Olivier's role in the Technicolor picturization of John Gay's famous musical comedy "the Beggar's Opera" is a "definite change of pace part for the noted dramatic actor. As Captain Macheath, a character based on the adventurous life of famed-highwayman Jonathan Wild, Olivier portrays a lovable rascal who invites danger, excitement (and romance) wherever he travels.
