SATURDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 23, 1991 THE GALVESTON DAILY NEWS S-A Remains of 800 animals found Associated Press AZLE, Texas The remains of at least 800 animals, mostly sheep and fowl, have been found in Parker County and may have been the result of cult activities, authorities said Friday. Sex organs, hearts and other internal organs were cut out of some of the animals, said Humane Society investigator Reed Young. The remains of a deer and a calf also were found, and Young said the animals appear to have been killed from 24 hours to six months ago. Young said he suspects the site is a dumping ground for the dead animals. Police: Teen-age tit kie used imaginary enforcer Associated Press FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.

A 16-year-old is accused of taking thousands of dollars in sports bets from his classmates and warning them an imaginary muscle man would hunt them down if they didn't pay up on their losses. The high school junior, whose name was withheld because of his age, was allowed to return to school Friday, two days after his bookmaking arrest. He was using his winnings to add to his baseball card collection, now valued at about $10,000, said Lt. Dave Green of the Broward County sheriff's office's organized crime division. The teen-ager handled bets of from $20 to $3,000 from at least 10 other students on professional football and baseball games, sheriff's spokesman A) Gordon said.

"He convinced other teens that he had an adult partner in order to intimidate them into paying their debts when they lost," Gordon said Friday. "He said 'who's going to pay off a high school Green explained. The investigation started after a father discovered his son owed thousands of dollars itv gambling debts and went to police. In a meeting that was videotaped, an undercover officer posing as the debtor student's father offered the youth $1,700 in marked bills on a $3,000 debt. The youth was arrested Wednesday at his home in Coral Springs, an upscale suburb of Fort Lauderdale.

"He had in his possession the marked money that was given to him by an undercover detective Wednesday," Gordon said. The student was allowed to return to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in the neighboring suburb of Parkland because his alleged activities took place off school property, school officials said. "The student has not been suspended because there is no evidence the student has done anything to violate school policy," said Merrie Meyers, a spokeswoman for the Broward County School Department. He is charged with two felony counts of bookmaking and misdemeanor counts of gambling and conspiracy, police said. None of the students who placed bets are going to be charged, authorities said.

The youth submitted a written statement Friday to assistant principals Gerald Cook and Marian Jenkins admitting he took bets. "He never actually took any bets on or near Broward School Department property," said Benjamin Aicuelo, principal at Douglas. Green said the youth's betting activities may have run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. He cautioned that the investigation is only beginning. TV preacher Robert Tilton under fire Associated Press DALLAS Investigators are trying to find out how televangelist Robert Tilton's Word of Faith ministry spends the millions of dollars it receives each year, an assistant Texas attorney general says.

"Our inquiry is going to be directed primarily at learning whether or not this money is going to help people's souls or just line Brother Bob's wallet," Steve Gardner told WFAA-TV. Gardner made his comments after previewing Thursday night's edition of the ABC-TV news program PrimeTime Live. The program said Tilton has the fastest-growing ministry in television. Tilton received $80 million a year from his followers, PrimeTime Live estimated. The program used hidden cameras to penetrate his ministry.

Jim Moore, president of Response Media, which handles Tilton's direct- mail campaign, said computers help target donors whose responses are opened by an Oklahoma bank. The donors' pleas are thrown in the trash, PrimeTime Live said. "When it's a faith in God that is being abused, that's the most cold, manipulative and chilling kind of fraud I know of," Gardner said. According to the network program, Tilton spends more 'money on Dallas-area billboards than he spends on missions he claims to support around the world. Tilton refused repeated requests for an interview with PrimeTime Live, the network said.

When contacted by a spokesman for Word of Faith ministry said Tilton's response was, "I have less than nothing to say to you." PrimeTime also profiled two other Dallas-based ministers, Larry Lea and W.V. Grant. Norm Kinne, a Dallas County prosecutor, warned viewers about emotional appeals for cash. "Be wary of people who say, 'Send your money to and give you their address," Kinne said. Doctor pleads innocent to sperm fraud Associated Press ALEXANDRIA, Va.

A physician pleaded innocent to criminal charges Friday after authorities said he fathered at least seven of his patients' children by using his own sperm for artificial insemination. Dr. Cecil B. Jacobson and his attorney, Jim Tate, denied that Jacobson injected the women with his own sperm. The doctor is accused of falsely telling couples that he operated a bona fide donor program that selected sperm from carefully screened men.

The indictment said he falsely led women to believe they were pregnant and later told them they had miscarriages. He is accused of mail fraud, wire fraud land perjury. 1 "I don't understand for practicing medicine I'm going to serve 285 years; I can't comprehend that," Jacobson told reporters outside the federal courthouse. "My whole goal was to help people have a normal child." U.S. District Judge Albert V.

Bryan III released the former Fairfax County, doctor without bail. A trial was scheduled for Feb. 10, The indictment alleges that Jacobson prescribed hormone drugs to the women that created false symptoms of pregnancy and led to the women falsely testing positive for pregnancy. 3tye ttalueatun BailQ Stems TEXAS' OLDfST NEWSPAPER Subscribe Today Call 744-3611 LOWEST PRICES OF THE YEAR!
