FEDERAL FUNDS HELP STATE'S RURAL SCHOOLS Recent application of Governor Clyde Tingley for FERA funds for teacher relief in New Mexico obtained an allotment of $267,318 for this purposse, according to word received from Washington. The allotment will assure rural schools remaining open to the end of their normal term. Locks, -Also Sales cr Trades Bill's Fix-It-Shop 114 East Spruce HOME DEMONSTRATION CLUB The Home Demonstration Club met at the Methodist Church Tuesday, with an attendance of forty-two.

The weather man did not keep the women from coming, although he put on a good demonstration of sand and wind. Film strips showing "Food Makes a Difference" "Livable Living Rooms" and "Cooking These film strips told their stories in an interesting, forceful way. How to make a filing case for recipe books was the demonstration. A cigar box was used. The side was taken out, the nid nailed on, and covered with attractive oil cloth.

The home-made paste recipe was very popular. To make one pint of paste: mix -half cup flour, one -half cup cold water, one-half teaspoon powdered alum, stir until smooth. Add 1 1-2 cups boiling water, cook five minutes and add one-half teaspoon each of oil of cloves and carbolic acid. A Foods Demonstration will be given at the next meeting. This meeting date will be changed to the second Wednesday in April which is April 10.

This change is necessary on account of the District Home Agent having to attend a State meeting. Sam E. Allison has been confined to his home this week by a severe cold. Elgie Booth of Lake Valley was 2 Deming visitor yesterday. Mrs. Marvin Hyatt underwent a tonsillectomy Saturday.

Mrs. Bob Franey gave a benefit bridge party last night, the proceeds to go to the Catholic church. Mr. and Mrs. W.

A. Winder returned Sunday from a ten-days' visit in California. Richard Leach has been quite ill this week. St. Luke's Guild met yesterday with Mrs.

Susie Tidmore. Mrs. C. H. Hon entertained with a luncheon bridge Wednesday, at the Schoepf home.

Dr. M. J. Moran spent Sunday in Hot Springs. Johnny Burns is working at the Palace drug store.

D. VanWinkle of Lowell, Arizona, is visiting relatives in Deming. O. H. Cooper is putting in a new well on a 50-acre tract four miles southwest of town, and the place will be cultivated this year by C.

G. Moir is driving a new Ford V8 sedan, purchased from the Bassett Motor company. Mr Mrs. Fred Sherman returned Friday from a short visit in California. Mrs.

S. J. Dunklin and Miss Christine Dixon entertained with a dinner Thursday night at the Dunklin home on South Tin ave. Present and former members of the local chapter of Rainbow Girls were guests. Benjamin Sherman made a business trip to Albuquerque Saturday, returnling Monday.

Mrs. Nellie Perkins is confined to her home this week by illness. Jim Gibson and Miss Christine Gibson spent from Friday to Monday in Santa Fe with Mrs. G. A.

Gibson, who is in a Santa Fe hospital recovering from an operation. Fred Sherman and Ben Sherman were business visitors in Lordsburg Tuesday. Mrs. Susie Tidmore has purchased a new Buick sedan from the Evans Chevrolet company. Missionary society of the Presbyterian church met yesterday with Mrs.

Ted Russell is on a week's vacation from the office of the Deming Ice and Electric company. Mrs. Anna Walker has resigned her position in Dr. J. G.

Moir's office and Mrs. Eldon Sloss is taking her place. Dr. and Mrs. J.
