W. Sykes Celebrate Golden Wedding Mr. and Mrs. William Caior Sykes celebrated their golden wed ding anniversary Sunday afternoot at open house. About 175 guest called from three until five o'clock Mr.

and Mrs. C. A. Sykes greetec the guests and invited them into the living room where the bridal couple received informally with Mr. Sykes' aunt, Mrs.

H. P. May of Asheville. Mrs. Sykes was charming in a black tissue faiile frock and an orchid corsage.

In the living room where the celebrants received the floral arrangements were all in yellow and white. Yellow roses and yellow chrysanthemums were used effectively with yellow tapers in silver holders casting a soft glow. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Tharpe showed the way to the dining room where the table was covered with a handsome imported cutwork cloth over yellow, satin.

The centerpiece was created of a huge yellow satin ribbon bow which held three immense golden bells filled with yellow roses. Yel- Kow tapers burned in a grouo of silver candleholders and tiny golden bells were scattered about the centerpiece and each one held a tiny spray yello" 'ndragons. Yellow roses and ons were flanked bv tapers in silver on the buffet and on the chest a handsome pitcher of white gladioli were used. Mrs. Nellie Nance Rhodes presid- at the coffee service during tht- hour and Mrs.

A. H. Nance, of Asheville. sister of Mrs. Sykes poured coffee during the second hour.

The handsome cake was cul and served during the first hour by Mrs. C. T. James, of Greens boro, sister of Mr. Sykes, and dur irig the second hour, Mrs.

Kipka. of Mooresville, and Cecil Privette, of Pulaski, Cake-Cutting For Reavis-Sides Party Miss Marlene Reavis and her fiance, Lawrence Carlton Sides, who will be married this-afternoon at 5 o'clock in Troutman Methodist church were honored last evening following the wedding rehearsal at an informal cake-cutting given by Mr. and Mrs. P. Reavis at the home of Mr.

and Mrs. Grady Reavis in Troutman. The house was decorated in the Christmas theme throughout excepting the dining room which was in bridal green and white. The bride's table was lace covered and in candlelight from white tapers in groups of silver holders. The three-tiered cake was topped with the tradition figurines and after it was cut by the bridal couple the cutting was completed by Mrs.

E. P. Reavis. Miss Vurla Mae Pinniz presided a the punch bowl which was nested in ivy- Green and white bridal ices were served by Miss Nancy Smith and Miss Jean Davidson. The bride-elect, who received in a charming fushia taffeta gown with a corsage of white pom pom mums, presented her attendants compacts and the bridegroom-elect gave his attendants cuff links and key chains.

About 30 guests were present. Parties Scheduled For Miss Neely A full schedule of pre-nuptial parties are scheduled this week for Miss Lily Mae Neely who will be married on January 7, to Pierce Merry. Jr. This afternoon Miss Gladys Step- bans will entertain at a tea at her home on Front street and Wednesday, Mrs. Scott Meredith is giving a luncheon at the home of her mother on East Broad street.

Mrs. Jack Grant will entertain at'a tea' Wednesday at 4 o'clock at her home in Brookdale and Miss Pat Goode will have a luncheon at her home on N. Center street Thursday. A bridge party Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. W.

A. Bristol will be given in I Miss Neely's honor by Mrs. Campbell King and Monday afternoon another bridge party will be given by Mrs. Read Rice, at the home of her mother. Mrs.
