THE' jTADDEN'S NOMINATION. VBltY FAIR AND SENSIBLE AKTIOLK ON 'ITIE BEPVIiLIOAN NOMINEE. Fi dm Vitf Ifiddh'toioil A rylts. The republics party in this Senatoiial district lias among its members a large number of gentlemen of ability, integrity, culture and high personal character, -who iiHly and respectably represent the district in the Senate of the state, yet (be convention that met in this village Tuesday gave these gentieraun the go by and honored with its choice Mr. Edward Madden.

It vpas not claimed by any of the gentlemen who were instrumental in bringing about Mr. Madden's nomination that he was in any prop-er sense the best Candida: 3 that the party cjuld place in the field, or that ha would make a better, or as good a representative as some of the other gentlemen whose names were mentioned in connection with ths office. They urged his choice merely on the lower ground of availibility and made no secret of the fact that his availibility was entirely due to the fact that he cou IdjCOBomand for the canvass a larger amount of money than any other that could be named. They argued ths.t unless the canvass was conducted on a liuancmi basis there was no hope of success for tbeir senatorial ticket, and aUo argued that the nomination of Mr. Madden and his money would help to drag the county ticlcet out of the slough of despondency, into which it was so rapidly sinking.

Persuaded by these specious arguments, the delegates to Tuesday's convention laid aside ali other considerations, and sacrificed principles and the claims of better men at the shrine of what they were pleasiid to call necessities of their party. Mr. Madden lias represented this district in the Senate at different times for three terms, and while we are willing to concede that he looked closely after such local legislation as the district needed, the records of the Henate saow that he was always the champion of the railroads and other corporations and monopolies, and that his vote was always to be depended on in support oi whatever measures these corporations desired to have enacted. It is an open secret that in his present canvass he expects receive no little aid and comfort from the railroad companies, and if elected would of Bourse return the favor by votes in theit behialf, for ingratitude is certainly uot one of his failings. EMPLOYMSHT FOR LADIKS.

The queen city suspender company of Cincinnati, are now manufacturing and introducing their new stocking supporters for children, and their unequaled skirt suspenders for ladies. None should be without them; our leading physicians recommend them and are loud in their praise. This manufacturing establishment is managed by ladies, who have made the wants of ladies and children a study, and they ask us to refer them to some reliable aud energetic lady to introduce them in this county, and we certainly think that an earnest solicitation in every household would meet with a ready response, and that a determined woman could make a handsome salary and have the exclusive agency for this county. We advise some lady who is in need of employment to send a postal card to the company, her name and address, and mention this paper. Address Mrs.

CARPETS i CARPETS JVJEW TO-DATf. or It is urged in Mr. Madden'! behalf that he is possessed ol' sound judgment and good business qualities, and Ins success in life certainly justifies the claim, but he is far from infallible. The disastrous failure of Middletown's water works extension, which cost the village $80,000, without a single benefit in return, and for which he is largely responsible, is a case in point. Ol Mr.

Madden peisonally we shall say nothing here, but a comparison between him and the democratic nominee, Mr. Sears, a hiyh i.oned, cultured, Christian gentleman would assuredly not be in Mr. Madden's ivor. No one who dispassionately reviews the qualifications of the two candidates in thr light of piesenl and coming events can far a moment rlaubt that Mr. Sears represents the best, most important and highest interests of thin district.

He is a man of the people and Lis sympathies and interests are all with them and to the people we appeal in his behalf for such ao earnest and hearty support that M-. Madden's money and the influence of tlie railroads can not compass his defeat. DEAD SI TUE ROADSIDE. FUKTIIER PAETICCLiKS OF THE MUS. ACKEB MSDMBS OACtDWBI.Ii.

From the Middletoum Arrjua. Coronor John Irwin, of Phillipsport, held an inquest over the remains of Mrs. Charity Acker and Mrs. Stepaen G. Ouldwell, the two liomowack women who were found dead by the roadside near Foulwood on the road leading from Wurtsboro to Monticello.

From all the evidence that could be procured it sippear- ed that both wore en were intoxicated when they met tbsir doath, and to give lurther color to this theory, a half filled bottle ol whisky was found in tbeir possession. Justice J. V. Morrison, who was the last person who saw the women alive, testified that when he pist them at Bridgeville, both of them were drunk, and that Mrs. Cauldwell was ou; of the wagon and so intoxicated that he considered it doubtful if she would be able to regain her seat in the vehicle.

At the point in the road where tha women met tUcir death is an embankment of about three feet descent, and it was down this that the horse, vehicle and women plunged. The women had apparently fallen beneath the wagon, and'the horse in struggling to regain its feet had drawn the wagon over Mrs. Acker's chest breaking three of her ribs and injuring her internally. She had evidently been almost instantly killed. Mrs.

Acker wis lymg partially across body oi Mrs, Cauldwell aud her weight and that of the wagon pinned her fast to the ground. In one of Mrs Acker's hands was a handkerchief and this was pressed tightly over Mrs. Qauld- well mouth, thus suffocating her. The jury rendered a verdict in accordance with the above facts, viz: that the women met their from an accident while intoxicated. There are very few people either JtJomowaok or in the sur rounding country who will regret the death of the women.
