Composite Decking 1st Quality $1.49 linear foot EASTON Jennis Roy Galloway, a longtime resident of Easton, died of cancer May 1, 2009, at the Mandrin Hospice House in Harwood. He was 94. He was born Sep.

12, 1914, in Baltimore, to Nina Roy and Jennis Edmunds Galloway. After graduating from Forest Park High School, he attended Johns Hopkins University, graduating in 1937 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was hired by the National Carbon Company, a division of the Union Carbide Corporation, and was posted as plant engineer to the Eveready Battery plant in Batavia, Java, Dutch East Indies. In December 1941, he was commissioned a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was attached to the Dutch General Headquarters in Bandoeng, Java, as a liaison officer.

In March 1942, he evacuated to Australia, where he was temporarily attached to the Australian Army Southern Command in Melbourne. After attending a six-week course at the Australian School for Military Intelligence, he was assigned as the base intelligence officer at U.S. Army Headquarters, Port Moresby, Papua, New Guinea. Later, he became responsible for setting up the counterintelligence network for all of New Guinea. He served 16 months in New Guinea, followed by duty in Australia, the Philippines and Japan, where he was theater commander of the U.S.

Army Counterintelligence Corps under General Douglas MacArthur. While stationed in Australia, he met his future wife, Lt. Leatrice Bennett Perry of Bennington, an Army nurse serving in the Pacific Theater. They were married June 12, 1944, in Brisbane, Australia, after a whirlwind romance. He returned to the United States in November 1945, having achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel, and was honorably discharged from the Army on March 5, 1946.

During his service in the Army, he was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Philippines Liberation Medal, Campaign Medal with 5 battle stars, and two Unit Citations with Oak Leaf Clusters. He rejoined the National Carbon Company immediately following his separation from the Army, and he and his wife lived briefly in Cleveland, Ohio, before moving in 1947 to Calcutta, India. His initial assignment was as plant engineer at the National Carbon Camperdown Works, manufacturing Eveready batteries. He and his wife lived in Calcutta a total of 16 years, raising four children along the way. He rose to the position of managing director, Union Carbide India Ltd.

before being transferred to the New York office of Union Carbide as vice president of its International Division. Upon returning to the United States in June 1962, he and his wife lived in Greenwich, for 10 years. In 1972, he retired as vice-chairman of Union Carbide Eastern where he had been responsible for all UCC Operations in the Far East. Immediately upon retirement, UCC offered him Roy Galloway a temporary job in Thailand, managing a joint Union Shell tin mining and smelting venture. He and his wife lived in Bangkok for two years, before finally returning to live in Wye Mills in 1974.

In 1991, his wife was diagnosed with disease and in 1995 he and his wife moved to the William Hill Manor in Easton, a continuing care retirement community. Mrs. Galloway died Dec. 25, 2002. Mr.

Galloway is survived by two daughters, Nancy Lee Galloway of Annapolis and Susan Galloway Abrahams of Fairfield, two sons, Peter Edmunds Galloway of Wilton, and Frederick Roy Galloway of Riva; and seven grandchildren. A graveside service followed by interment will be held at noon Saturday, May 9, at the Druid Ridge Cemetery, 7900 Park Heights Avenue, Baltimore. Born June 15, 1935, in Trappe, son of the late George Allen and Margaret Louise Carey Prahl, he was 73.

John, better known as Buddy by friends and relatives, was a loving husband to Louise Turner for eight years. Buddy had worked at the Phillips Packing House. As a licensed plumber, he worked for Emerson Elzey Plumbing and Heating and George Jackson Plumbing and Heating, both of Cambridge, and for Hess Mechanical Contractors of Upper Marlboro, retiring in 1997. Buddy enjoyed the outdoors fishing and boating were his specialties. He also enjoyed relaxing, watching black and white cowboy movies on the television.

Buddy loved to be with his and families. He was an active member of the Cambridge Church of the Nazarene for more than 30 years, serving as Sunday school superintendent and as head usher for many years. Buddy was preceded in death by his brother, Louis C. Prahl of Cambridge, on March 11, 2007. Buddy is survived by his beloved wife, Louise of Cambridge; daughter, Diana Harris of Easton; a sister, Doris Moran of North East; four brothers, A.

Carl Prahl and his friend Mae of Crapo, William H. Prahl and his wife Joyce of Cambridge, Wilmer L. Prahl and his wife Cindy of Buford, S.C., and the Rev. Richard K. Prahl and his wife Sharon of Cambridge; three stepsons, Keith B.

Turner and his wife Karen of Cambridge, Kirk F. Turner of Mechanicsville, and Kris F. Turner and his wife Kim of East New Market; two granddaughters, Megan Clark and Haley Harris; one great- granddaughter, Madyson; three stepgrandchildren, Ryan, Chloe and Macy Turner; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a dear family friend, James Loveless. Pall bearers will be Vincent Gordon, Kenny Prahl, Matthew Prahl, Ray Gordon, Kirk Turner, Kris Turner and Keith Turner. Prahl JOHN PRAHL SAN Bill McKelvy, former race car driver and retired stock broker, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at his home in San Destin after a long battle with cancer. He was 84. William Sheldon McKelvy was originally from Pittsburgh, Pa. He enlisted in the Navy as a teenager and served his country during World War II on a Navy destroyer.

After graduating from Lafayette College, he began his career as a stock broker with McKelvy Company, the firm originally founded by his father William McKinney McKelvy in 1937. He held a seat on the New York Stock exchange during the before selling McKelvy Company to relocate to Florida in 1968. In 1969, he opened Babbitt, Myers Waddell, another brokerage firm, before retiring in 1972. Bill was well known for his passion for cars and was a pioneer in the early day of sports car racing. Having served a successful apprenticeship racing sprint cars and boats, in the early he formed Scuderia Bear, a team that competed at the most prestigious sports car races in the world including 12 Hours of Sebring, Watkins Glen, and Nassau Speed Week.

In 1964, at Le Mans, France, the site of the world famous 24 hours of Le Mans, he won acclaim by besting better-equipped factory teams to achieve the highest finish by a non-sponsored team, a record that still stands. This was an era in sports car racing before the advent of corporate sponsorship and million dollar driver salaries. Bill loved to recount stories about the early days of racing and the countless exotic cars he had owned and driven. He was an avid historian of the automobile and for many years the proud owner of a 1929 Model Duesenberg roadster that he entered in antique automobile shows around the world. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, the former Nancy Ewell; by his sons, William S.

McKelvy Jr. of Annapolis, James Peter McKelvy of North Potomac, Mathew R. McKelvy of Trappe, J. Christopher McKelvy of Oxford and Michael McKelvy of Baltimore; by three stepchildren, Gary Ewell of Austin, Texas, Gail Jordan of Gloucester, and Glenn Ewell of Ashville, N.C.; and by 17 grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for noon Wednesday May, 6, at Christ the King Episcopal Church, 408 North County Highway, Santa Rosa, Fla.

Lemise of Easton died May 1, 2009, at Talbot Hospice House, after a long battle with cancer. He was 82. Born July 27, 1926, in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of Arthur and Sarah Miller Lemise.

Mr. Lemise lived in N. Arlington and in Lyndhurst, N.J., for many years before moving to Easton in 1990. He was a Navy seabee in World War II serving in the Philippines and the Caroline Islands and in Africa during the Korean conflict. Mr.

Lemise was a Lyndhurst volunteer fireman for 25 years, serving as chief in 1979-80. He was a member of the Lyndhurst American Legion Post 139. He spent his working years as a draftsman at the Kearny, N.J., Shipyard before becoming an Ironworker in The International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Ironworkers. He was a member of the Ironworkers Local 483 in Hackensack, N.J., for 42 years. Mr.

Lemise married the former Joan Martin of New York, N.Y., on Nov. 12, 1949. They were married for 60 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Barbara Esteve of Kempton, Janice Cheney of Baltimore, Arthur Lemise of North Arlington, N.J., and Gerard Lemise of East Stroudsburg, six grandchildren; and one great- granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes and a brother, Peter Lemise.

Lemise CAMBRIDGE Karey E. Webster, 21, of Cambridge passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Dorchester General Hospital. She was born Oct. 22, 1987, in Cambridge, and was a daughter of Donald W. and Ann Lewis Webster.

Karey graduated from Cambridge-South Dorchester High School, Class of 2005. She attended Chesapeake College and transferred to UMES in Princess Anne. Karey was working to receive a degree as a dental hygienist. She worked at Restaurant as a hostess. Some of her hobbies were fishing, cooking, shopping and dancing, and she loved family and friends.

She became a member of Zion United Methodist Church on Dec. 10, 2000. Karey is survived her parents, Donald W. and Ann L. Webster of Cambridge; a sister, Kelly D.

Webster of Cambridge; paternal grandmother, Janice Webster of Cambridge; an aunt, Denise L. Wheatley and husband Charles of Cambridge; two uncles, Gary D. Webster of Cambridge and Steven M. Webster of Cambridge; and several cousins. Karey was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Dorothy and William Lewis; and her paternal grandfather, Calvin H.

Webster. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge, with the Rev. Samuel H. McWilliams officiating.

Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, at Thomas Funeral Home P.A. in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in memory of Karey E.

Webster, to the Eastern Shore Dental Society, George E. Dent, 8685 Commerce Drive, Easton, MD 21601. Karey E. Webster EASTON Mary Lou Hampp of Easton died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Candlelight Cove in Easton. She was 86.

Born Oct. 19, 1922, in El Dorado, she was the daughter of the late Cecil Brownie and Alice Edna Hornady Porter. After graduating from Myrtle Grove High School in El Dorado in 1939, she served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was a secretary and office manager during her working years, retiring in 1989.

She was formerly a member of the Tidewater Chapter of Professional Secretaries where she served as past president, International Association of Administrative Professionals, a volunteer at the Academy of the Arts, Easton Moose Lodge 1520, past president of the Ladies of the Elks 1622 for two terms, and a member of the E.E. Streets Memorial Post 5118 Auxiliary. Mrs. Hampp is survived by her husband, Charles William Hampp, whom she married Aug. 30, 1944, in Nevada; a son, Charles W.

Hampp Jr. and his wife Sharon of Olney; a grandson, David Langford Hampp of Olney; and two sisters, Marjorie Murph of El Dorado, and Dorothy Towler of Ypsilanti, Mich. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, at Fellows, Helfenbein Newnam Funeral Home P.A.
