Eisenhower told his news conference the State and Defense departments are working very hard to make certain of that while also seeing to it that the United States keeps its international agreements. There is a disagreement as to whether Specialist William Girard, accused by the Japanese of responsibility for the death of -Mrs. Naka Sakai, was acting in the line of official duty at the the woman was killed.

She was scavenging for metal on a firing range, and was fatally injured when struck by an empty rifle cartridge propelled from a grenade launcher. Father, it is our government. If our government aban dons William Girard to Japanese justice, for whatever reason, it will have notified the world that we will defend freedom for everyone except our own military personnel serving abroad." WV -In asking for abolition of the 40-day goose season, Illinois waterfowl managers seek authority to manipulate shooting to control flocks to fit refuges. Each state has federal authority to choose a 70-day season for shooting geese. What Illinois is asking the Legislature for is power to permit shooting for any number of days up to 70.

The Senate has agreed to this Conservation Department request. The House has still to act. For the last several years, says Lewis E. Martin, assistant department director, the season might well have been a few days longer because the flock the largest in the nation needed a little more harvesting. The harvest maximum is figured at about 20 per cent of the flock.

At season end the last three years, the flock has run from 190,000 to 225,000. Last year hunters took 30,000 geese where 10 to 15,000 mo-" have been cropped with safety. Since the reached to about the limit of its land acquisition i the southern Illinois refuge areas, the big problem win be to keep the size of the flock in bounds. Otherwise, the harvest toll may be taken, not by guns, but by disease caused by overcrowding and malnutrition, the game The refuges are located at Horseshoe Lake in Alexander County, in Union County and at Crab Orchard Lake. Refuges are being established in Missouri and Kentucky.

They are also attracting some of the geese from Illinois. Such factors make harvest estimates more subject to change as the season Green Bedns Louisiana Fresh BLACK VALENTINE Fancy Quality Beans An Feature Value Cucumbers Fancy Long Green Excellent for Slicing Buy Today for Your Holiday Outing Salads Fresh Cantaloupe Head Lettuce Red Potatoes Bananas JUMBO 27 Size LARGE 24 Size U.S. No. 1 Size Golden Ripe None Priced Higher! 2 10 2 Fw IV Ocean Spray Cranberry Sauce 2 mi lemonade Tint Jg Pure Sun Frozen tSi WL IB 9 to 11 Lb.
