Howard Knieriem OXFORD Howard W. Knieriem died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at his home in Oxford. He was 88. Born Sept.

15, 1917, in Scribner, he was the son of the late William and Emma C. Kellner Knieriem. After attending the University at Lincoln, for a year, he transferred to Drexel University where he studied engineering and later transferred to New York to study electrical engineering. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant.

During his career, he worked in the engineering department of KYW TV, an affiliate of NBC, in Philadelphia. He retired at age 62. In 1979, Mr. Knieriem moved to Oxford, where he became a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church and installed the carillon that still plays at noon and at night in Oxford. He was also a member of IEEE and the Oxford Museum.

Mr. Knieriem is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Elaine Rhoades; two sons, Roger Knieriem of Quakertown, and Richard Knieriem of Pennsburg, a daughter, Patricia Barclay of Oxford; a sister, Mildred Maahs of Nebraska; seven grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Arthur Knieriem. Funeral services will be held a 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan.

Thelma B. Poole MADISON Thelma B. Poole, 92, of Madison died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005. Services are at noon Tuesday, Jan.

28, 2005. He was 93. Born in Omaha, July 12, 1912, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Anna Karsch Leypoldt. Mr.

Leypoldt was a pilot for TWA airlines. He retired in 1972. Mr. Leypoldt is survived by his wife, the former H. Marjorie Patterson, whom he married Oct.

17, 1943; a daughter, Melinda L. Lazarus of Cheshire, a son, Mark Walter Leypoldt of Arlington, Texas and one granddaughter, Gillian Lazarus. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Manning of Easton, formerly of Canonsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore. Born May 18, 1975, she was the beloved granddaughter of Jacqueline Manning of Washington, to Glenn Kuenzig, and daughter of the late Curtis Manning. Lisa was a published poet and author who never let her illness prevent her from living life to the fullest or to stop her from caring deeply for others. She graduated from Canon- McMillan High School in Canonsburg, Pa.

in 1995 and attended West Virginia University afterwards. Every person she touched felt overwhelmed by her generosity, courage, and her never-failing sense of humor. Her aunts and uncles, Jacqueline and James Newton and Lou and Jane Coppola; her cousins; her mother, Trudy Grable of Fredericktown; her sister, Jamie Wierclock and her grandfather, Alex Manning, survive her. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan.

Marvel of Ridgely died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 78. Born in Centreville, Mrs. Marvel was the daughter of the late Howard Alexander Lane and Mae Palmer Lane.

Her husband of 50 years, William D. Marvel, died May 20, 1999. Mrs. Marvel and her husband had owned and operated Beverages and Coastal Chocolate in Ridgely until the mid 1970s. Then, for many years, she worked as a aide at the Benedictine School for Exceptional Children in Ridgely.

Mrs. Marvel is survived by two sons, Howard Alexander Marvel and W. Desmond Marvel, both of Ridgely; four daughters, Kathie Marvel of Sierra Vista, Sally Marvel of Goldsboro, Pixie Marvel of Ridgely, and Rachael LaNeve of Preston; one brother, Collison Lane of Centreville; five grandchildren, Heather LaNeve, Katie LaNeve, Benjamin LaNeve, Morgan Marvel, and Megan Marvel; and her cat, Smudge. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Gordon Lane; and two sisters, Roxanne Powell and Margaret Golt. The memorial service will be private at the convenience of the family.

29, 2005. He was 98. He is survived by daughter, Annette Morris Lerner, and her husband, Theodore, of Chevy Chase; son, Allen I. Morris, and his wife, Dorothea, of Weston, three sisters, Sophia Annenberg, Emily Udell Hyman, Reba Schwartz, and her husband, Aaron, all of Baltimore; six grandchildren, Mark D. Lerner, and his wife, Judy, Debra Lerner Cohen, and her husband, Edward, all of Washington, D.C., Marla Lerner Tanenbaum, and her husband, Robert, of Bethesda, Leslie Morris Feldman, and her husband, Robert, Kenneth E.

Morris, and his wife, Melissa, Michelle Morris and Joel Fishman, all of Weston, great-grandchildren, Lauren, Jonathan and Jacob Lerner; Jaclyn, Michael and Stefanie Cohen; Eden, Haley and Grant Tanenbaum; Elana and Kayla Fishman; Ariana and Justin Feldman; and Jake and Jonah Morris. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Alper Morris; and brothers, Morton Gottlieb and David Morris. Davie Paice EAST NEW MARKET Dr. Davie Paice of East New Market passed away in the early morning of Christmas Eve, Dec.

24, 2005, at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge. He was 75. Born Davie Lee Paice Nov. 10, 1930, in Huntington, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lillian and Russell Paice. His lifelong love affair with horses began in West Virginia, when, as a boy, he kept his pony in the backyard of the family home.

He went on to receive a doctorate of veterinary medicine from Ohio State University in 1956 and devoted his life to the care of animals. After working two years as an assistant to a veterinarian in private practice, Dr. Paice served ten years as Assistant Veterinarian for the Maryland Racing Association and an additional 13 years as the Chief Examining Veterinarian. He later served for eight years as Chief Examining Veterinarian for the Delaware Racing Association. He also maintained an active private practice serving on standard- bred farms throughout the Eastern Shore of Maryland for many years.

He was an honor roll member of the American Veterinarian Medical Association, a member of the Maryland Veterinarian Association, and a lifetime and honor roll member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners. Dr. Paice also owned and operated Rebel Acre Farm in Hagerstown and Jenaloo Farm of Royal Oak, where he bred, raised and trained over 100 thoroughbred yearlings. Some of his more successful horses included Rebel, Telekinesis, Telepathy, Rebel and Floyd Beaver. Dr.

other passions included golf, skeet shooting, hunting, boating and flying. A longtime member of the Airplane Owners and Association, he bought, restored and flew several vintage airplanes, including a Piper Comanche and a Globe Swift. Family members agree that Davie found his greatest peace and freedom in the air and around horses. He is survived by his wife, Alison Paice and their daughter, Jena Dora Learned, both of Easton; son, Dave Paice and daughter-in-law, Kathy, of Dayton, Ohio; younger brother, Robert Paice, of West Virginia; five grandchildren, Hope Pritchard, Willow Learned, Shannon, Jordan and Alyson Paice; and three stepchildren, Douglas, Pamela and Linda Farwell. A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m.

Ober RIDGELY Joyce K. Ober of Ridgely died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, in Oakhurst, N.J. She was 82. Born April 12, 1923 in Denton, she was the daughter of the late Clarence J.

and Mildred Ramsdell Kern. She was a lifetime resident of Caroline County. Joyce K. Ober and her late husband, J. Thomas Ober were married in 1945 and enjoyed 40 years together until his death in 1985.

She graduated from the old Denton Caroline High School in 1940 and attended Georgia Maude Beauty School in Baltimore, along with her sister. As a cosmetologist, she and her sister owned and operated the Kern Sisters Beauty Shoppe in Denton. After her marriage, she and her husband farmed for several years before owing Ober Florist in Greensboro, which they operated for about 20 years. After moving near Ridgely, she and her husband owned and operated school bus for a number of years. She was an active member of St.

United Methodist Church in Greensboro and the Caroline Farm Bureau, serving as chairman of the Committee in the late 1980s, she was also past member of Discussion Group Number 6. She is survived by her good friend, Kenneth Wright, of Oakhurst, N.J.; three sons, J. Thomas Ober J. Terry Ober and Tally K. Ober; one daughter, J.

Tammy Briggs, all of Ridgely; two sisters, Doris K. Voshell of Easton and Janet K. Hutson-Councell of Goldsboro; five granddaughters Toni Nicole Fitchett, Jamie L. Tribbett, Jennifer L. Tribbett, Elizabeth Ober and Sarah Ober; one grandson, Talley Kyle Ober; two step- grandsons, Cody Cober and Johnny Ottensmeyer; and one great-grandson, Gage Fitchett.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, J. Thomas Ober in 1985; and her sister, Merlyn K. Collins. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan.

2, at St. United Methodist Church and Tuesday, Jan. 3, one hour prior to service. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan.

He was 72. Born Oct. 22, 1933 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Hamlet and Grace Anthony Ruark. Mr. Ruark spent his career with Baltimore Gas Electric.

His latest position was as a storm analyst. He is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia E. Harrison); his children, Vickie Wroten, Ronald Ruark and Robert Ruark; siblings, Charles, Elaine, Evelyn, Marian and Joyce; grandchildren, Travis, Kacie, Sara, Alex, Tyler, J.C., Timothy and Matthew; and by numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan.

Arrangements are by R. Carroll Hurley Funeral Home PC, St. Michaels. James Weimar JACKSONVILLE James Weimar, 48, longtime resident of Jacksonville Beach, died Dec. 27, 2005.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Dr. Ward and Nell Weimar. Jay moved to Florida to attend college at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. He received a degree in English and journalism and served as the editor of the college newspaper while he was a student.

After college, he worked at several newspapers before accepting a position with the Peninsular Clarion in Kenai, Alaska. While there, he started the Empty Stocking Fund which was for needy children at Christmas. The fund is being renamed the Jay Weimar Empty Stocking Fund. His travels brought him back to Florida and he joined the Times-Union in May 1993. He was named director of display advertising in March 2000.

During his career, Jay won several national and regional awards for creative advertising and successful advertising campaigns. He was past president and treasurer of the Florida Newspaper Advertising and Marketing Executives and also was past chairman of Florida Newspaper Advertising Network. Surviving are his loving wife Karen Weimer, Stefanski, of Jacksonville Beach, two brothers, Chuck and Ward Weimar, both of Montauk, N.Y.; a sister, Laura Hanlon, and her husband, Tim, of Easton; in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Stefanski of Preston, and nieces and nephews, Tracy, and her husband, Sam Emara, Eddie Berrang, Tracy Hanlon, Kristen Hanlon, Meredith Weimar and Charlie Weimar.

A Celebration of His Life will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Flagler College Auditorium. The family will welcome friends beginning at 3 p.m. Memorials in his name may be directed to the Marie Harkowa PIN Fund, Mid Shore Community Foundation, 102 E.
