7. -Democrats demanded today that a House Armed Services subcommittee "all the facts" about secret investigation which linked a prominent local Republican to an attempted "four per cent" deal on Navy munitions contract. Representative Porter W. Hardy, said the subcommittee's at closed-door Demograts, hearings last June and July, "show clearly that neither party hast a monopoly on influence' pedaling." The subcommittee inquiry centered around testimony that Stephenson offered to help a California manufacturer sell launchers for the Navy's "Mighty Mouse" rockets. The testimony showed that Stephenson sought a fee of four per cent of the sale price but the manufacturer turned down the offer and reported it to the Navy.

Byrd of Virginia reported today that Federal employment in July resumed a year-long decline which had been interrupted by a brief upward spurt in June. Byrd, chairman of the SenateHouse committee on the reduction of non expenditures, said the July figure totaled 2,451,765, decrease of 17,875 over June and 150,038 less than a year ago. Prior to June, Byrd said, reduction in employment had been steady for 10 consecutive months. The senator also disclosed that the federal civilian payroll for the 1953 fiscal year totaled $9,863,000,000, an increase of $322,000,000 over to leave for Brazil in mid Brazilian government recently authorized their entry as immigrants. Two 13-year-old boys were making like pioneers today on a 100-mile covered wagon trek to the California State Fair at Sacramento. An 18-year-old Denver girl proved her courage yesterday with a cool grip on a rifle and a steady aim at a prowler. Lourea McLearn told police that when she came home she found two strange men coming down the stairs of her home. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Judge McLearn were away.

The girl slipped into a room off the hallway, took down her father's rifle and stepped out. One of the men had left. The other said, "Don't point that thing at me."
