CENTREVILLE Each spring, Gunston Day School students eagerly await the arrival of their yearbooks. They know they will receive their yearbooks sometime in the spring, but they never know when, and they never know how. Methods in previous years have included delivery by hot air balloon, glider plane and fire truck.

This year, on April 29, in celebration of the 100th birthday, Headmaster John Lewis delivered yearbooks in a 1911 Ford. Yearbooks arrive at Gunston Day School CHESTERTOWN In his first year of teaching math at Kent School, Douglas Pfaff is making quite an impression. Not only does he unravel the mysteries of pre-algebra and algebra 1 for middle school students, until recently he sported a 24-inch auburn ponytail. On Friday, April 29, Pfaff got a haircut to remember. In front of the entire school community, parents and friends, Pfaff handed scissors to three lucky students who would cut 22 inches of that ponytail.

Benjamin, Annaliesse and Frank Cantera were the stylists of the day who made the cut. Pfaff will donate his hair to Locks of Love. Although he was proud of his plan to donate his hair, Pfaff said it was not easy to let go of something four years in the making. started growing my hair in October 2006 with the express purpose of making a donation to Locks of Love. So this is my first haircut in almost four years.

been fun, but I knew it was time to make the change. Who knows, maybe be able to do it again in another four The opportunity to cut hair was one of the most sought-after items at Kent recent auction. After several rounds of enthu- siastic bidding, parents David and Lena Cantera won it and were able to give their children an opportunity to remember. Project Outreach teams held events for kids in the local community recently at Worton Park.

STEM Project Outreach team Delusion was made up of the following students: president Robb Donovan, Mike Foreman, Austin Long, Marshall Miller, Kyle Myers, Tyler Russo, Cole Schieke and Brodie Usilton. On March 19, Delusion held a flag football tournament at Worton Park. Despite some advertising and weather issues, it was a successful event. Team president Robb Donovan received Project of award for being considerate to team members and local charitable organizations, and for being an excellent leader throughout his outreach project. On March 26, STEM Project Outreach teams Average Joes and Udderly Delicious had simultaneous events at Worton Park.

The Average Joes team was made up of the following stu- dents from KCHS: president Emily Voshell, vice president Rebecca Machen, Ethan Havens, Emory Lieber, John Machen, Andrew Oatley and James Smith. Average Joes set up a family fun day at Worton Park, to raise awareness about troubling substance abuse statistics for Kent County adolescents. There was a moon bounce and a cotton candy machine. The Chestertown fire department provided an EMT; the Elks club and health department provided pamphlets of information and representatives to answer questions; and a testimonial was given by a speaker from Alcoholics Anonymous. Average goal was to raise awareness of alcohol and drug abuse, and to promote a clean and fun environment for kids.

Over 200 people attended the event, and 154 people signed a poster to agree to be drug free. Voshell received the Project Outreach award for her leadership of the family fun day. The Udderly Delicious team included president Peyton Chance, Lian Blatchford, Katie Graham, Cortney Amber Receski, Allison Santmyer and Lenny Sheppard. Udderly Delicious joined in on the fun day event by serving homemade ice cream. They set up a make-your- own ice cream bar using milk from local dairies.

Kids poured their own milk, sugar (or substitute) and flavoring into a small bag. Then, they added rock salt and ice to a larger bag, placed the small bag into the larger bag, and shook vigorously. Minutes later they had ice cream. The Udderly Delicious students were trying to raise awareness about safe, humane and ethical treatment of farm animals, specifically in the dairy industry. They shared about safe and effective local dairies, which use humane methods for milk production and processing.

KCHS and Project Outreach are grateful to the individuals and organizations who donated their time and money, and provided a variety of items, for the events. Project Outreach holds community events Student Honors, High Honors.
