(AP) There are many in this Deep city who feel that the an- nual Blue-Gray football game is headed for oblivion if it doesn consent to integrate its teams. The prestige of the contest, whose officials have rejected all proposals that it allow Negroes to participate, is dwindling and this worries those interested in Its future.

The National Broadcasting Co. canceled its national television contract for the 27-year-old classic last year after its backers would not allow Negro athletes to take part. "We're just hurting ourselves if we don't integrate," said one source, who asked not to be named. "The Senior Bowl at Mobile is integrated as is all minor league baseball in Alabama. There's just no reason for us not to follow this course." This same source said any plan to integrate the contest would have to have the backing of Alabama Gov.

Michigan Picked To Win Rose Bowl Celts Down Foe By 112 To 106 Frank Ryan To Collins Pulls Chips By JACK HAND CLEVELAND (AP) Cleveland has ended the rule of the West in the National Football League by exploding the myth of Baltimore's super-team on a grey, wintery Sunday afternoon. When Frank Ryan, Gary Collins, Jim Brown and Co. finished rambling over the shocked Colts 27-0, they had exposed Johnny Unitas and Lenny Moore at ordinary mortals, not supermen. Because Baltimore rolled to 11 straight victories in the WeBt and wound up with a brilliant 12-2 record, the Colts had been installed as solid seven-point favorites to chase the Browns into Lake Erie. 'Supreme Flop The Colts' supermen were supposed to rush Ryan so fiercely that he would spend the day flat on his back, scanning the snow clouds overhead.

Baltimore's 1 1-balanced offense was expected to shatter the Browns' defense, poorest in the league in the season statistics, and expose their pass defenders as Inept pretenders. To the contrary, Ryan was thrown for a loss only once. The mathematical wizard threw three touchdown passes and outplayed the great Unitas. Collins set a playoff record by grabbing three scoring passes and Brown bulldozed the Colts' league-leading defense for 114 yards on 27 carries and also caught three passes for 37 additional yards. Groza Ups Record Jusf to rub it in, 40-year-old Lou Groza kicked two more field goals and ran his point total to a record 49 in eight championship games.

All of this was a delight to most of the 79,544 fans in the vast wind-swept stadium on the lake front. In the final seconds, they demolished the goal posts at one end of the field while the officials let the final 26 seconds tick away. The West had won six of the last seven title games and had humiliated the East by "running up a 10-4 score in inter-confer ence play during the regular season. A Victory In '54 Until the aroused Browns ended the string, the only Eastern triumph since 1956 had been Philadelphia's 17-13 squeaker over Green Bay in 1960. Detroit, Baltimore, Green Bay and Chicago all had "taken turns, deflowering the pride of the East.

Saturday night, Bryant was sadder. "It just didn't look like our team," he said.

"I'm afraid death that I have made a mistake in our plans. I'm afraid we took off too soon and too long," he said. A Third Visit But maybe it was Bryant's superstition about not changing your ways when you win that caused the concern. This is Alabama's third visit the Orange Bowl stadium un der Bryant. In 1963, the Tide was victorious over Oklahoma 77-0 in the Orange Bowl game.

Last December, Alabama defeated Miami 17-14 in the stadium. On those trips, Alabama was housed In the same hotel where now resides and on those previous trips, the Bryants were given the same room. A Room Mixup But due to a mix-up In room reservations, Bryant found himself in a different room on a different floor. For a coach who follows certain patterns when winning, it was upsetting. But the Tide's workout made him feel better.

Rrvnnt filt is wnrrinH ahnnf the Pondjtjon of Steve Sloan's knee which was hurt in the Auburn game. Sloan moved into the starting quarterback role when Joe Na math injured his knee in the North Carolina State game. "We don't know if anything is wrong with Steve's knee or not, Bryant said. "But he moved around out there pretty eod Sunday: We still plan to start Joe, and we feel like Sloan will be ready just in case." If Namath and Sloan are both ready to go full speed, stopping them will be the big task for Coach Darrell Royal's Texas Longhorns. Texas 'will not arrive in MK ami until this afternoon after a workout in Austin.

In to to it for Cincinnati toach Jack blasted other National Basketball Association teams for being Boston Celtic patsies, while his Royals were the only club to do consistently well against the champion Celts. Boston beat Detroit Sunday night for the sixth time without a loss this season, 112-106.

Coincidently, the Celts also lead the Eastern Division by six games over runnerup Cincinnati. The Pistons, playing before their former home town fans in Fort Wayne, led Boston by as many as 18 points during the first half. But Sam Jones, who scored 40-points, and John Havlicek. who pumped in two baskets to break a 104-104 tie, proved too much for the Pistons. Player-coach Dave De' Busscherre had 26-polnts for the losers.

Cincinnati's Oscar Robertson put on another one-man scoring show with 48 points but a well-balanced Baltimore Bullet the Browns and Don Shula of the Colts, a unique teacher-stu dent combination, had based their game plans on ball con trol. Each tried to establish to usp a coaching word their ground game. Collier succeeded and Shula didn't. It was as simple as that. After a scoreless first half, the Browns struck quickly for 17 points in the third quarter with the help of two short punts of 25 and 27 yards by the Colts' Tom Gilburg against a 20-mile-an- hour wind.

The First Blow Groza's 43-yard field goal was the first blow. Then came Ryan's 18-yard scoring toss to Collins, the 6-foot-4 flanker from Maryland, and Ryan's 42-yard TD pass to the same powerful receiver. When the Colts dug in and stopped the Browns on the goal line early in the final period, Cleveland had to settle for a nine-yard field goal by Groza. Ryan's 51 yard pitch to Collins, who made a most remark able ea'ch in heavy traffic, con eluded the scoring. It was the Browns' first title Monday, December 28, 1964 new diet-rite, cola Year's Day, the Michigan has played in Rose Bowl three times and won each contest although two of their victories weren't contests at all.

The 1901 Wol verine edition Fielding Yost's "Point A Minute" team capped a perfect season by whipping Stanford, 494. This lopsided defeat so infuriated West Coast officials that Michigan didn't receive another invitation until 1948. After winning the Big Ten title, Fritz Crisler's team, led by a halfback named Chalmers (Bump) Elliott, crushed Southern California, 49-0. In 1951 Michigan returned and beat California, 14-6. Michigan has been picked as an 11-point favorite and the folks back home are wondering why the spread is so small.

Bump Elliott directed Michigan to an 8-1 record, the lone lass being a 21-20 decision to Purdue. While beating the likes of Ohio State, Illinois, Navv and Michigan State, the Wolverines managed to average 238 yards rushing and' another 100 passing. since 1955 and the first since Jim Brown joined the club as a rookie in 1957. They were beaten by Detroit in that '57 game. In fact, ths West still holds a lopsided 20-12 edge In.
