Stewart, John llodiak Featured In Story Of Far East Excitement and adventure provide the keynote for "Malaya," new screen attraction which opens at the Calhoun Theatre this coming Wednesday and will continue to play through Saturday, with Spencer Tracy and Jame Stewart playing a pair of reckless buddies in a pulse-hitting drama laid against a sinister background of th Far East. Stewart play John Royer, ex-newspaper correspondent who succeeds In getting U. S. Government backing for a daring project to smuggle raw rubber out of Jap-occupied Malaya during the war. He ties up with Tracy, enacting the adventurous and tough Crana-han, and the Dutchman, proprietor of a bar in a Malayan coastal town.

Gambling their odds against those of a crafty Jap commandant. Colonel Tomura, the adventurer contrive to make deal with two rubber growers to buy their hidden stockpiles of rubber. These are run out by a fishing fleet of sampans to waiting camouflaged ships that bring the much-needed rubber to the States. The plan hits a snag in the person of a German rubber grower who doublecrosse Royer. Fared with almost certain death at the hands of the Japs, Royer and Carnahan are given a choice of continuing their dangerous mission or fleeing for their lives.

Their decision and the ulti mate consequences to each of the men make for a story denoument that is as dramatic and suspense- packed as it is logical. Tracy is excellent in the first all-out adventure role he has tackled in some time. Miss Kreeman sets the plot boiling when she circulates a nominating petition for her brother-in-law, Holden, who's not aware he's being drafted for public office. Too late, Mona trams that his opponent, a man she has labeled a political stooge, is her father. Edward Arnold. Added to the family's woes is a domestic misunderstanding between Holden and his bride. Miss Caulfield, who suspects her hus band's interest In Arleen Whelan has nothing to do with politics.

On hand to lend his brilliant comic touch to the proceedings is Billy DeWolfe in the double role of Arnold's campaign manager and Miss Caulfleld's never-say-die suitor. He gives the best and funniest performance of his career. The added enjoyment on the above program will be a new cartoon specialty. "Lion Around." and the latest Issue of the "World News Leo Gorccy Stars Today At Cameo When Leo Gorcey picks up in the street in "Jinx Money." feature attraction at the Cameo Theatre today and Monday, It leads him and his pals, Huntz Hall and Gabriel Dell, into daring escapade with the underworld and the law. After a muscle-eared mug is shot when he wins $50,000 in a poker game, Gorcey and his buddy Hunts Hall find the winnings in the street.

When another mobster tries to hold up the boys for the money, he mysteriously vanishes. Donald Mac-Bride, as the excitable police inspector, lets Gorcey keep the money to lure out the mobsters. Several underworld characters, including a curvacious female, scheme to get the greenbacks, and the Bowery Boys face danger, with hilarious complications. Gabriel Dell, Sheldon Leonard. Betty Caldwell.

Having arragned certain damaging clues in advance, he orders Miss Tierney, while in a trance, to walk into the victim's house and remove certain vital clues from her husband's safe. Gene Is found with the body of Miss O'Nell, the victim, and arrested. Testimony makes it appear that she had an affair with Ferrer.

Everything appears hopeless, but Conte's tireless efforts supply the suspenseful climax to the exciting drafaa. Joan Bennett Star Of 'Trade Winds' High adventure and thrilling romance wveep the screen in "Trade Winds'feature attraction at the Noble Theatre today and Monday, co-starring Joan Bennett and Frederic March. The story of "Trade Winds" begins in San Francisco, when Miss Bennett flees after having appar ently killed a man, the action shifts to Honolulu, Hawaii, where she pauses long enough to buy a fake passport and have her hair dyed black. With Detective March and Ralph Bellamy always In close pur suit, Miss Bennett next escapes to Kobe, Japan, and shortly afterward proceeds to Shanghai, China, later to go from there to Saigon, lndo-China.

Here Ann Sothern, March's secretary in his San Francisco office, re-enters the story and adds to the complications. As the flight of the fugitive is resumed, the story moves to Singapore, Malaya, and from there to Colombo, Ceylon. With the excitement continually Increasing, the next jump is to Bombay, India, where March spirits his quarry away from another detective working under orders from the San Francisco police. After an action-filled sequence In the Laccadive Islands, off the coast of India, the story shifts back to San Francisco, where a startling climax brings the picture to a close. A color cartoon, entitled "Better Late Than Never." and the late News will complete the program.

Ritz Will Feature 'Great Dan Patch' "The Great Dan Patch," the thundering drama of America's most fabulous days, comes to the screen of the Ritz Theatre this Tuesday and Wednesday with a great cast which includes Dennis O'Keefe. Gail Russell, Ruth Warrick and Charlotte Greenwood. The story of "The Great Dan Patch" begins with a young chemist, Dennis O'Keefe, returning to his father' Indiana farm just before his marriage to a local school teacher with social ambitions, Ruth Warrick. The father. Henry Hull, has handled horses all his life.

O'Keefe again meets the trainer. John Hoyt, whose daughter, played by Gall Russell, has left high school to help her father. O'Keefe marries, becomes rich through an Invention and his wife is able to indulge her wishes for fine living. When the father dies. the husband's interest In horses, and especially In the favorite, Dan Patch, is rekindled.

The horse is a great success. The husband and wife disagree over city or farm life and this situation is the basis for the dramatic climax. A Screeliner novelty, entitled' "Iron Ponies." will provide the short entertainment on th program. Western Thiller To Show At Cameo "Battling. Marshal," a rough and tumble western adventure, featuring Sunset Carson, will be shown as the feature attraction at the Cameo Theatre this Thursday, Fri- day and Saturday, Into the town of Quartsville, rides Sunset Carson, fearless fron- tier marshal, to face the most ruthless band one man has ever been confronted with.

Gold, millions of dollars of it, is the influence that has made Quartsville one of the most feared communities in the west. Carson handles it with dispatch, with courage, with rare judgment.
