The only surviving member of the plane's crew, now a brigadier general, is also ordered to join the investigators and give whatever helpful information he can. The most useful bit of news, however is carefully kept from them. It is that the plane was lost when its navigator (the general) prematurely bailed out over the Mediterranean.
