Braios River Philosopher Dear editar: I had to make another trip into town the other day to pick up another tractor bolt now costing 15 cents and sincr I was throwing money around recklessly anyway I hauled off and bought a newspaper. In it I ran across an article t.hnt said the cost of a college education is up 08 percent since 1957, and this got me to thinking about inflation. Now you take tlyat 15-cent bo't. It's true it costs three times as much as it did 10 or 12 ago, but at the same time it's still just as good a belt as the earlier one. Now with college educat'on.

GEHL BROWN ELY Box 114 Cause, Texu well 1 don't want to get into an argument, but are you the product is ns gvod today as it was 12 years ago? are just televising the wrong ones? As 1 understand inflation hits us in two ways.

In one. the quality stays the fame but price goes up. like in Cars are as gooi! today a-, they were 12 years ago, they lust cost a lot more. In the oilier way, the prioc stays the same but the quality comes down, like in a nickei candy bar. You can "Hill buy a nickel candy bar, you jusj don't get nearly as much candy.

Mostly wrapper. But when inflation really hurts is when yju pay a lot more but don't get as much. Take Congress for example. Congress costs over twice what it did 12 years ago. but can anybody prove well, I'd better not get into that.

It's an odd thing. Politicians are always saying if you raise salaries you'll get a better quality of office-holder, but happens? We raise the salary and the samo people turn up running "or the same offices. There's one wyy to whip inflation, and if I knew what it I'd so. Yours faithfully, J. A.
