Keating, 53, of Wap pingers Falls, died suddenly, Monday, Jury 21, 2003. Mr. Keating was a resident for 25 years, formerly of Kingston. He was a maintenance foreman for Central Hudson Dynegy in Newburgh for 30 years. Bob was an avid car enthusiast specializing in restoring and showing classic muscle cars.

He also enjoyed skiing and had been a member of the Mid Hudson Radio Controlled Airplane Club. Born April 17, 1950 in Kingston, he was the son of Raymond L. and Ruth Brinnier Keating. On Nov. 17, 1990 in Wappingers Falls, he married Joyce.

Regul. Mrs. Keating survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two sons, Brent L. Keating of Rye, N.Y.; Scott M.

Keating at home in Wappingers Falls; three brothers, Barry Bliss of West Park, N.Y.; Bill Keating of West Hurley, N.Y.; and Jim Keating of Frederick, MD. Spencer Jr, 55, a lifetime local resident, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. Mr.

Spencer worked in store maintenance at Burlington Coat Factory. He was past president of the Exempt Flremans; a 33 year volunteer firefighter, of which 28 years as Captain of the City of Poughkeepsie Volunteer Fire Department; a volunteer with the Arlington Fire Department for two and one half years; and a volunteer for the Lower Main Street Civic Assoriatioa Born in Poughkeepsie on Oct 13, 1947, he was the son of Charles H. Spencer Sr. and Mary Tarantino Spencer. He married Irma VanPelt Mrs.

Spencer died April 20, 1998. Survivors include a son and fiancee, Jerome Spencer and Diane Bihou of Hyde Park; a daughter and son in law, Crystal and Glen Rogers of Woodstock; a sister, Virginia of Poughkeepsie; step grandchildren, Dylan and Crystal Lempka; his companion, Vicki Stanton, at home; and several nieces and nephews. Goetchius Tom Goetchius, 62, of Union Vale, died unexpectedly Sunday evening, July 20, 2003, while riding his Hariey with friends.

Bom on June 3, 1941 in Beacon, he was the son of Charles Goetchius and Mary (Bushnell) Stokes, who predeceased him. Tom attended Beacon schools, Westchester Community College and served in the United States Marine Corps. An excellent pilot Tom flew professionally as a corporate pilot for TAG Aviation in Westchester, which afforded him the opportunity to traverse the world. During his career, he had particular fondness and the utmost respect for both David Rockefeller, whom he flew when he worked for Wayfarer and Ben Rosen, who he flew, and talked a lot of golf with, while at TAG. Tom was an accomplished woodworker and operator of heavy equipment He loved building models, golfing, wrestling his property with his tractor and taking the bike out with his buddies.

Above all, Tom will be remembered for his generosity. His kids and his friends never mentioned anything, large or small, that didn't just show up on their doorstep one day, though he often refused to take the credit for sending it Tom is survived by his Melissa Egan and son in law, John, granddaughter, Kelly and grandson, Sean, all of Poughkeepsie; a sister, Barbara Haley, and a brother, William Goetchius; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and' nephews. He is also survived, and will be sorely missed, by his many lifelong friends, who were as close to him as family. Calling hours will be Thursday, July 24, from 4 8 p.m., at the William G. Gabel, 73, a 48 year resident of Poughkeepsie, died Wednesday, Jury 16, 2003 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. Mr.

Gabel was employed as a telephone technician for New York Telephone Co. until 1984 and until his retirement in 1986. He attended Manual Training High School in Brooklyn, where he was a member of the 1948 city champion football team. He was voted all city left end that year. He was also a lifeguard at various city beaches for four years being involved with saving of at least two fives.

After graduation, he attended the University of Nebraska until he entered the U.S. Navy in 1950. He was stationed on the USS Currituck, a seaplane tender until his honorable discharge in August 1954., Phil was a member of the Arlington American Legion Post 1302, Pirate Canoe Club, Telephone Pioneers and the Hudson River Watertrails Assoriatioa Phil was an avid outdoorsman spending many weekends over the years with his famih camping, hiking, canoeing and scuba diving in the Adirondacks and Catskills. He and his wife, Pat also enjoyed touring through New England and Nova Scotia by motorcycle. His passion for the last few years was kayaking, exploring the Hudson River with his wife and two kayak buddies, Skippy his Doxie and Holly, Pat's Westie.

Born in Brooklyn on June 22, 1930, he was the son of Philip and Elizabeth GabeL In 1956 he married Patricia Hagan at St Theresa of Avila Church in Brooklyn. Mrs. Gabel survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Philip and his wife, Tina Gable; Thomas and his wife, Mary GabeL Cameron and his wife, Tarryi Gabel; a daughter, Dawn Brewster and her husband, Kevin; three grandchildren, Lindsey, Sean and Elizabeth; two sisters, Elizabeth Bruce of Glen Cove, N.Y.; Ruth Hutchins and her husband, William of Toms River, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no calling hours.

Elijah Jacob Levine TAYLORVTLLE, 111. Elijah Jacob Levine, 9, of Taylorville, 111, died Monday, July 21, 2003 at St Louis Children's Hospital.

Elijah was born on Dec. 20, 1993 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y, to Craig Conan Levine and Julie Larrain Sarah Watson, both surving him in Taylorville, UL He was a student at the Memorial Grade School in Taylorville, DL, and loved sports. He was a member of the Pawnee Assembly of God. In addition to his parents, survivors include a brother, David Wayne Stoughton and a sister, Evelyn Levine, both at home; grandparents, Malcolm and Veronica Watson of New York and Stephen and Aura Levine of California; Grandma Delia and Papa Cecil Amos of Pawnee, DL; and several aunts, uneles, and cousins. Patrick Rusch officiating. Marjorie Jane O'Donnell COPPELL, TX Marjorie Jane O'Donnell, 60, of CoppelL TX, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2003. Marjorie was bom in Harrsionburg, Va. A graduate of Northeaster University, she was employed by IBM for 25 years, first in Poughkeepsie and later in Dallas. She was a member of the Society for Technical Communication and was president of Northeastern University Alumni Club, DallasFort Worth Chapter.

Marjorie had an open spirit that harbored an enormous and endless passion for life and compassion to friends and family. She is survived by her sisters, Lynn and Deborah; her brothers, John and Richard; and four nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, July 26, at the SparkmanHillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX. Born June 1, 1958 in Yonkers, she was the daughter of Nicholas R. and Loretta Scelza NuzzL She was a graduate of Lakeland High School in York town, N.Y. On April 8, 1978 in Yorktown, N.Y, she married Jerome Buda. Mr. Buda survives at home.

In addition to her husband, she is also survived by her mother, Loretta Grifith of Cape Coral, her father, Nicholas Nuzzi of Yonkers; two sons, Jerome Buda at home; Adam M. Buda at home; three sisters, Christina Blair of Yonkers; Loretta Posadas of Danbury, Alayna Vanderlinde of Wappingers Falls; and several nieces and nephews. Linda Marie Baker HIGHLAND Linda Marie Baker, 82, a lifelong resident of the area, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at home, Mrs. Baker was of the Methodist faith. Born in Gardiner on June 2, 1921, she was the daughter of Emil and Rose White Ellison.

She married Gordon Baker, who died September 1970. She was a devoted mother to her daughters, Jacqueline Verdon of Highland, Mildred Davis of Poughkeepsie, Linda Verdon of Highland, and Wanda Gee of Staatsburg; two sons, Robert Baker of Highland and Homer Baker of Lake Wylie, S.C.; two sisters, Winnifred Southworth of Dover Plains and Florence Jamison of Poughkeepsie; eight grandchildren; five great grandsons; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Rose and two brothers, Emil and Norman Ellisoa Visitation will be held 9 to 11 am, Saturday, at the Michael Tbrsone Memorial Funeral Home Inc, 38 Main Street, Highland. Services will follow the visitation at 11 am from the funeral home, with Rev. Arlene Daw ber officiating.

Former Hunter College dean of School of Social Work dies Th Associated Pre NEW YORK Harold Lewis, who helped the Hunter College School of Social Work gain nationwide recognition as its dean, died on Friday. He was 83. Lewis was onh.the second dean of the school and held the post from 1970 to 1990. At Hunter in 1972, he started the first doctoral program for a City University of New York professional school.

He ahib developed Hunter's Concentrations concept, which allows graduate students to pursue a second specialty in health or mental health. The idea was adopted by the National Council on Social Work Education as a model for other graduate schools of social work. Born in Brooklyn, Lewis graduated from Brooklyn College in 1942 and served in Army intelli gence during World War II. He earned a master's degree, in 1948, and a doctorate, in 1953, from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work. His academic career began in 1950 at the University of Nebraska School of Social Work.

He became a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where he taught from 1951 to 1969. While he was a fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies in Behavioral Sciences In Palo Alto, Calif, he was appointed to the position at Hunter College. Lewis went on to become founder and co editor of The Journal of Teaching in Social Work. He wrote more than 100 papers and articles and authored "Intellectual Base of Social Work Practice: Tools for Thought in a Helping Profession" (Haworth, 1982). He is survived by wife Celia; two daughters, Beth Lewis and Amy Reisch; and four grandchildren.

Ex Yale medical school official dies NEW HAVEN, Cqnn. Dr. Robert M. Donaldson a deputy dean at the Yale School of Medicine who researched digestive diseases and helped develop an AIDS clinic, died of heart disease" July 8 in West Falmouth, Yale said Tuesday. He was 75.

Donaldson was the Yale School of Medicine's acting dean from 1991 to 1993. He was also chief of the medical service at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven. Donaldson researched the role of bacteria in digestion, the absorption of vitamin B12, peptic ulcers and chronic liver disease. He began teaching at Yale in 1973. After retiring in 1997, Donaldson was a doctor at an AIDS clinic and helped establish the AIDS Care Program at Yale.

Donaldson edited the journal Gastroenterology from 1970 to 1977 and served on the editorial boards of the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Clinical Investigation and the American Journal of Medicine. He also was a past president of the American Gastroenterological Association. Donaldson graduated from Yale University and the Boston University School of Medicine. The Associated Press Baritone, 69, dies from sclerosis Frederick Alan Humphries PLEASANT VALLEY Frederick Alan Humphries, 44, a lifelong resident of Pleasant Valley, died Monday, July 21, 2003 at St Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie. Mr.

Humphries was an avid gardener and a shadetree mechanic. Born in Poughkeepsie on Nov. 12, 1958, he was the son of Frederick J. Humphries, who passed away in 1991 and Barbara E. Rose, who survives him in Pleasant Valley.

He was a graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1977. In addition to his, mother, he is survived by a brothers, Thomas J. and his wife, Linda Humphries of New Jersey; one aunt and several cousins. Calling hours are 6 8 pm, today, at Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Homes 16 South Grand Avenue, Poughkeepsie.

Former curator dies of heart failure WASHINGTON Robert W. Read, a former curator in the botany department of the National Museum of Natural History, died of heart failure July 15 in Hollywood, the museum said Tuesday. He was 71.

Read worked at the Smithsonian museum from 1973 to 1989. He was active in land preservation projects in Collier County, following his retirement. He was founding chairman of the Naples Botanical Garden and did research at the Fairchild Tropical Garden in Coral Gables. An expert on tropical plants, Read was a native of Woodbury, N.J, and held degrees from the University of Miami, ComeU University and the University of the West Indies. Warren Ghormley, co founder of the Dick's Drive in restaurant chain, died Saturday after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 85. The first Dick's opened in 1954 after Ghormley and two partners went to take a look at the rapidly growing fast food drive in business in California. They returned and settled on a simple menu with quality food prepared in scrupulously clean kitchens. SEATTLE John Bradfield Carufel, who persevered with his operatic singing career after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, died July 12 of the progressive nervous system disease.

He was 69. Carufel, a baritone, was diagnosed in 1954 after landing a lead role in a musical while attending Seattle University. Undeterred, he Activist, oldest UCLAgrad, dies at 103 RIVERSIDE, Calif. Community activist Clara Shaver, who at age 98 became the oldest person to receive a degree from UCLA, died Tuesday. She was 103.

Born in Comfort, Texas, in 1899, Shaver moved to California with her family in a covered wagon. Enrolled at UCLA in 1920, she was studying to be a teacher when she was offered a position at an elementary school two weeks before graduation. She accepted and never returned for her degree. Five years ago, UCLA officials presented her with an honorary diploma, making her the university's oldest graduate. She recalled growing up on a ranch where she churned butter by candlelight and of seeing Hal ley's comet not once but twice, in' 1910 and again in 1986.

She was named Riverside County Volunteer of the Century for working' with jail inmates for 78 years. She regularly led them in Bible studies until retiring when she turned 100. The Associated Press moved to San Francisco in 1960 to take advanced voice lessons and landed a spot in the San Francisco Opera chorus. He moved back to the Seattle area in 1966 but kept singing until 1977 and spent several years as choir director at Holy Family Catholic Church in Kirkland. The Associated Press Radio host known for stunts dies ATLANTA Radio personality Bobby Harper, whose on air antics inspired a character on the TV show "WKRP in Cincinnati," died Tuesday of lung cancer.

He was 64. Harper, of Smyrna, Ga, was the basis for WKRP's scruffy, spacey Johnny Fever, said Hugh Wilson of Charlottesville, Va, who created and produced the' sitcom that ran on CBS from 1978 to 1982. Harper, nicknamed ran radio shows at 15 radio stations over a nomadic 31 years, moving from Peoria, DL, to Detroit to Atlanta. He was fired several times, sometimes for unseemly comments on the air. Harper got drunk on the air with 80 proof vodka to prove that drinking and driving is bad.
