"The view of Saturn through a small telescope is what got me into astronomy in the first place," said ebb, now professor of astronomy at Florida International University in Miami.

"It's one.thing to see a picture of the rings on a television screen, but it's another to see it with your own eyes and to realize there are other worlds out there." Saturn is orJy part of a dazzling light show taking place every night for the next two weeks, as it chases Jupiter across the night sky. Both planets, will appear brighter. than they have 'in yean, while the star cluster known as the Pleiades rises to its highest point of the year. And stargazers are loving it "Jupiter a the closest it's been in 12 years, and Saturn is the' closest it's been in 22 years," said Jack Horkheimer, executive director of the Miami Space Transit Planetarium. Both planets are clearly visible to the naked eye, he said, but it's better to gaze through a telescope, or a decent pair of binoculars.

Saturn comes up about 45 minutes after Jupiter, then follows' its path almost exactly. They reach their point some time after midnight, Horkheimer said Even with a brightly shining moon, both planets are clearly visible as the two shiniest points in the night sky. It should get even better this weekend, when the moon rises later and less brightly, Horkheimer said.
