The strikers continue to remain firm. Terrific Cjeloiie. MINNEAPOLIS, July 22 --A terrific cyclone struck Southern Minnesota Saturday, mainly along tho line of the Chicago North-Western railroad. The town of Elgin in Gltnstcad county, was totally destroyed, every bnilding being blown down or unroofed within one minute after the storm struck the lowti.

Mrs. Thayer was killed, and several others were wounded. At Owntnnua great damage was done, especially at the fair grounds, where nl! the buildings were wrecked. Several persons were injured. A mile west of that place a passenger train was lifted from the track- and turned clear over.

Twenty-five or thirty persons were injured. A. H. Williams, of Hocbester, was injured in back and chest; W. Rogers, internally; D.

Dodlemou, skull crushed, and these are Ihe only ones feared to be fatally injured. At Kissod Ihe cyclone struck one mile west of the town, blowing down school houses nud several oilier Imi tilings in its track. At Micheter- ville three men were killed and eight woucideii, of which ihree are fatally. At Warren there was great ilcMlruclitm, iitul one person killed. ST.

i July 23. --Later advices from Saturday's storm indicate Ibat Us track was from one to two miles wide, and crossed Blue Earth, Wauzetlii, Sieele, IJoclgc. Oliuslciid, and Wabash counties. The most serious damage occurred in the villages of Owataua, Kasata, and Elgin. At Elgin three persons were seriously injured.

Mear Mantorville there were nine serious casualties by the overturning of a passenger train. Mear Owataua thirty-four persons sustained injuries, all of a more or less serious nature. Near Hitchcock Mr. Geisen- ger and mother were killed, and Mrs. Howies was killed near Hed.leld.

Near Ha- vou, Kakota, it is reported that nine persons were killed and fiff wounded. Dispatches received li am Dakota say the cyclone first made iis ap carance at liitch- coek, betweea Redfield and Huron. The house of J. Geisser wf-s demolished and his wife and mother killed, and Geisser and his five children more or less injured. The house of Mr.

Johnson, one mile south, was blown to fragments, and Johnsou was dangerously hurt. Mrs. Bowles, mother of Mr. Johnsou. will not live.

The house of J. C. Peacock was next torn to pieces; he and his wife are unconscious. Twenty other houses were blown down, but no nccidents to persons are reported. Thousands of acres of crops are ruined at Redfield, Dakota.

All crops arc laid flat, aud the storm did much damage otherwise. At Columbia it was severe. All the houses are reported blown down at Lake Benton. At Watertown and other places the hail find wind are said to hare been very severe, resulting in the blowing down houses and destroying most of the crops. Two men, William Duil and 0.

R. instantly killed and John Everson was badly stunned and cut on the nose. Three men were building a house in Madison township, about twelve miles southwest of this place when it struck. $300,000 Fire. YOKK, July of the upper rloorg in the Munro building, 17 to 27 Van- ilewatcr street, were gutted by fire this afternoon.

The floors below were flooded with water and every part suffered more or less. Total loss, $300,060. There were many narrow escapes but no lives lost, and no one seriously injured. The building is eight stories high and the firemen had to work at a great disadvantage. Thirteen firemen were cut off by the fire and smoke but were rescued by means of ropes.

The firemen were ordered off the roof about a minute before it fell in. The fire was caused by spontaneous combustion. About 1,000 persons were employed in the building, though but a few "of them will be thrown out of employment. General Ord Dead, CHICAGO, July Ord, who took passage on the City of Washington, from Yera Cruz for Sew York, and was taken with yellow feircr, compelling his removal to the shore while the vessel was here, died last night at 7 o'clock.
