Bassett was elected president for the ensuing year. Hugh Woodward of Albuquerque was elected first vice president and L. M. Stone, Clovis, and 1. L.

Langley, Santa Fe, were chosen first and second vice presidents respectively. Ben Sherman, of Deming, was chosen secretary, and Roger N. Neil, Albuquerque, was chosen treasurer. Ainong the speakers at the convention were A. D.

Brownfield, Deming; and Ferry Carpenter, formerly of the Taylor Grazing Service, and now 4 Colorado rancher, who discussed the stockmen's interest in legislation relatjing to use of the national forest, and solicited the help of the sportsmen of this state in getting this legislation passed. Other speakers were Bul Jackson, field representative for the National Wildlife Federation; Howard Dodgen, executive secretary of the Texas Game. Fish and Oyster Commission; Art Schilling, forest supervisor; and representatives the U. S. Soil Conservation, Land Management and Fish and Wild life Department.

Mr. Dodgen of the Texas Game Commission, had much praise for the progressive policies of the New Mexico Game Department and stressed the point that it was a model for the other western states and Texas in particular. He was especially impressed with the progress made in restoring the antelope, prairie chickens and other species which were practically extinct several years ago. He stated that Texas was slow to realize the needs of conserving her game and that it was on the point of extinction before steps were taken to protect deer and other species with the result that they did not have enough game to satisfy the needs of her sportsmen, causing them to encroach on the game of her neighboring states, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, etc. They have felt the loss of their game to a degree not konwn or understcod by the sportsmen of New Mexico, who were far-sighted enough to inaugurate 2 program of game conservation as far back 1914.

Mr. Bassett states that at the Clovis convention approximately 15 local Game Protective tions were represented, and that the meeting the most constructive in the state's history.
