Arkansas Farmer Held for Murder, Burning of Wife Decatur, June 61-year-old Mountain Home (Ark.) farmer was held by Decatur police today after Arkansas authorities charged he killed his wife and cremated her body on a log fire near his home. The farmer, Leon A. Merrow, denied the charges, maintaining his wife, Vedah, 52, is not dead but merely missing. Merrow was arrested in Decatur, where the Merrows formerly lived, while visiting relatives Saturday night. Sheriff Ernie Gentry of Mountain Home said a murder warrant was obtained after Arkansas officers stirred the ashes of a brush and log fire on land and found human bones.

He said they also found buttons which had been identified as from a dress Mrs. Merrow wore. The sheriff declared the woman was slain and burned June 9. Investigation of the mystery began in Decatur when Mrs. Merrow failed to arrive on a promised visit to her sick mother, Mrs.

Artie Terry, two weeks ago. I Arkansas deputies went to Merrow's farm and were told by Merrow his wife had gone to Decatur. They learned she had made a reservation for a bus trip June 10 but had not called for the ticket. On June. 14, Merrow went to Decatur and told relatives his wife would be along any day.

He filed suit for divorce on the next day. Arkansas officers are expected to return him to Mountain Home. Liberty Ship Is Stranded Off Coast Copenhagen, June workers attempted to remove cargo from the grounded Liberty ship John Trumbul today in an effort to float the vessel. The ship became stranded off Copenhagen last night. Its crew was removed by rescue craft to no danger.

The vessel was en route to the Polish port of Gdynia from the Gulf of Mexico. Charles Lineback, associate manager of an insurance company in Marion, was in Tipton on business Monday and today.
