POUGHKEEPSIE JOURNAL TUESDAY, APRIL 27, 2004 OBITUARIES 5B Anna B. Martell Town of Poughkeepsie Anna D. Martell, 83, of the Ttown of Poughkecpsie, died Saturday, April 24. 2004 at vassar Brothers Medical Centec Born in Poughkecpsie on Aug. 17, 1920, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Theresa Kovacs Gyscek.

On Dec. 21, 1941 In Poughkecpsie, she married John E. MartelL Sr. Mr. Martell died Dec 23, 1995.

Survivors include a son, John E. Martell Jr. of Kalamazoo, MI; daughter, Barbara Keene of Poughkeepsie, N.Y; son, Lawrence Martell of Hyde Park; two grandchildren, Maura Keene of Chesapeake, Va and Tara Cranston of Pleasant Valley; one great grandchild, Brianna Brang; sisters, Susan Gyscek and Elizabeth Sears, both of the Town of Poughkecpsie, and, Rita Kondor of Hyde Park: brothers. Joseph Gyscek and Stephen Gyscek, both of Poughkecpsie; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters.

Helen Shoup, Esther Winkler, and Mary Parrcn; and a brother, Michael Gyscek. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am, Wednesday, at SL Peter, Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Hudson View Drive, Poughkeepsie. Burial will be in SL Peter's Cemetery, Poughkecpsie, Memorial donations may be made to SL Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 SL Jude Place, Memphis, TN 3S105. Arrangements have been entrusted to Parmele Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Avenue, Poughkeepsie.

Mr. Powell was born in Poughkeepsie, the son of the late Thomas D. Lucille Olsen PowelL He was a graduate of Poughkeepsie public schools. He was an Air Force Veteran and was a crew chief during the Korean War. Mr.

Powell joined the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department in 1962 and was awarded the City of Poughkeep sie's highest honor. The "Medal of Honor" in 1982 for valor in the line of duty during the explosion of the Bern scolor Dye Factory. Mr. Powell was responsible for saving the lives of three civilians and recovering the remains of two. He was later promoted to Fire Inspector where he revamped the Inspectors Bureau and updated their re cord keeping as well as closing several hazardous multi family houses.

Upon retiremenL Mr. Powell moved to Bishopville, C. in Lee County and was acuvety involved in many community activities and was awarded Lee County's "Certificate of Appreciation'' for his work as a volunteer at the Lee County Animal Shelter. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Snyder Powell of Bishopville, SC; two sons, Thomas DeForrest Powell of Poughkeepsie; Douglas Powell of Hyde Park; his daughter, Deborah Cole of Hyde Park; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be 6 8 Tuesday, at Norton Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers and food, please honor Mr. Powell's memory by supporting Lee County Animal Shelter andor the South Carolina Museum. Sally Ann Marie O'Keeffe, died April 22, 2004 in Naples, FTa at home, surrounded by family and friends.

Born Jury 22, 1950 in Cold Spring, N.Y, she was the daughter of Chester H. Nelson and Marie H. Nelson (Bra zier Creagh). Sally Ann was a 1969 graduate of Ladycliff Academy, and a 1970 graduate of Mirencordia School of Nursing as a registered nurse. In 1971, she became Director of Nursing at Tra Nel Nursing Home in Beacon From 1974 to 2000, she was a RN at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, where she worked in ICU, CCU, radiation oncology, emergency and recovery rooms.

She moved to Naples in 2000 and worked as a RN at Naples Community Hospital Survivors include a son, Brian Robert O'Keeffe of Poughkeepsie; her mother, Lady Marie H. Brazier Creagh of Naples, her sister, Nora P. (Edward FJ Preusser; and a brother, Chester E. (Kathy) Nelson, all of Garrison, N.Y; her stepsisters, Elizabeth (Michael) White and Gillian Mary (Keith) Rae, her stepbrother, Christopher (Victoria) Brazier Creagh, all of England, and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Chester H.

Nelson in 1967 and her stepfather, Major General Sir Rupert Brazier Creaghin2002. Visitation will be Friday, April 30 from 10.30 11.30 am, at Clinton Funeral Home, Cold Spring. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12noon, FViday, at Our Lady of Loret to, Fair SL, Cold Spring. Donations in her memory, may be sent to Hospice of Naples, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, Fl 34105 Dorothy "Dotty" Bastone Dorothy "Dotty" Bastone, a 33 year resident of Yorktown Heights, died of cervical cancer on Monday, April 26, 2004, at home. She was 70.

Dotty owned and operated two local stores (Dusted Treasurers and Crafts For Pleasure) in Jefferson Valley. She operated these businesses from the 1980s to mid 1990s. Born SepL 5, 1 933 in Manhattan, she was the daughter of George IL and Carrie T. (Skuza) Morrison. She was educated in Hempstead, Long Island and graduated from Hempstead High School in 1951.

On June 27, 1971, she married Edward Bastone in Yonkers. Dotty had a zest for life, and along with her down to earth personality, she made friends easily and forever. Her love of life was shared with her family, friends and anyone within listening distance. Dotty was a people person who has left a lasting impression on people she has met personally and those she met via email. She always had a story to telL which usually was interesting, humorous, educational and sometimes embellished to make a point She has many interests, antiques, crafts, gardening, cooking, computers (building as well as using) and most recently, purchasing and renovating homes.

Her acts of charity to those less fortunate are too numerous to mention She will be dearly missed by all She is survived by husband, Edward of Yorktown; a son, Dennis Ambrosio (Maria) of Wappingers Falls; a daughter, Dorothyann Con klin (Carl) of Poughkeepsie; Maria Bastone of Highland; and four grandchildren who she deaity loved, Mark, Nicole, Vincent and Tyler. Famir members who died earlier include her parents, George H. and Carrie Morrison and her brother, Robert Morrison. Calling hours will be 7 9 pm, Tuesday and 2 4 and 7 9 pm, Wednesday, at Clark Funeral Home in Yorktown Heights. The funeral services will be 10 am, Thursday, at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Westchester, Rosary Hill (Hawthorne) or American Cancer Society.
