in Columbia has been going on for several days The testimony was all in early this week Then the arguments of cono sei began On Wednesday Mr Norris addressed Uhe jury for the State He had explained why he name into: the case and was arguing the theory that the second shot of the accused proved fatal when suddenly according to the Raleigh Post there came a dramatic pause: Warren Judge Peebles addressing a juror wife here to know what you want done with those pea VI know tho condition of pea replied the juror Sheriff ask Mrs Warren what condition the vines are in aud tell said tbe judge Mr Norris had resumed his argu ment when Judge Peebles again in terrupted to say Juror Mrs Warren says the pea vines are them stay in the sun said the juror The question surrounding the life or death of the Warren pea vine having been settled to the satisfao tion wo hope of Mrs Warren Law yer Norris again took up the thread of his discourse in the murder trial and laid special stress on the testimo ny of Mr Jones uller The delight fully informal institute was over for the time being The assom blage again became a court to in quire into responsibility for the death of ahnman being 1 We doubt if the 'records of trials the world over can match this inci dent in outside of North Caro ina In that State it will become part of native folk lore and not the most remarkable in the ever length ening list of tales racy of the soil and of a singularly homogeneous and in genuous people Says the Raleigh Times: Let nobody lose confidence in the rectitude of the law Tne law is right aud just to all when law is strained beyond its natural and legitimate limits that it appears to be unjust and inorperatlve It so much the law as the way it is administered that is complained of It was never Contemplated that in a trial a jury should be selected solely to decide one way or that a judge would appear as counsel on either side of the case But we have lived to see these abuses and more in North Carolina The only way to remedy them is to change the law in some particulars so as to minimize the abuses We have no hope of seeing this remedy applied soon for those who have most to do with mak ing the the don't want the abuses corrected Thomas Hardware Co STATESVILLE Oct 20 1903 ertilizers Old Dominion Guano Old Dominion Bone and Potash High Grade Acids The Old Piedmont Guano and Acids
