Clara Haass RHINEBECK Clara Haass, 82, a seven year resident of Rhinebeck, a longtime resident of Poughkeepsie, and previously of Peekskill, died Sunday, Jan.

1, 2006 at Northern Dutchess Hospital. Mrs, Haass was the founder and coowner of Clara's Pies and Bakery in the 1950's in Poughkeepsie. Later she worked at the Post Office, retiring in 1986. Born in Peekskill, NY on Dec. 22, 1923, shd was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ellen Spinka Gicba.

She attended Peekskill schools and graduated from Peekskill High School. On April 15, 1942 at Assumption Church, she married Charles Robert Haass. Mr. Haass predeceased her in October 1955j Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Haass of Fished, IN, Karl Haass and wife, Marianne, of Hopewell Junction, and James Haass and wife, Linda, of the Town of Clinton, NY, seven grandchildren, James and Kelly Haass, Jodi McCoy, Karl Haass, Robert Haass, William Haass, Lora Haass, and Sabrina Champagne; great grandchildren, Karl Haass III, Katelyn Haass, Brianna Haass, Ayden McCoy, David Haass, Robert Haass, Jr and Ryan Haass. She was predeceased by one son, Robert Charles Haass in March 1997; three brothers, John, Peter and Paul Gleba; and two sisters, Mary Seymour and Anna Gleba.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006 from 4 8 pm. at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, 218 Mill St, Poughkeepsie. She was 75. Gruss died of cancer at her home in Fontaine Saint Martin, in the Sarthe region of western France, said Dominique Texier, tour director of the troupe. Born into a circus family, Gruss was a well known animal trainer especially panthers who retired from the ring in 1984 to found a touring troupe that bears her name.

One of Gruss three children, Gilbert, will take over the troupe, which employs 120 people. Gruss, a knight in France's prestigious Legion of Honor, will be honored in a ceremony Friday at a church in Fontaine Saint Martin.Martin. Stephen Sutka led the response to a two alarm fire on North White Street on Wednesday, a three alarm fire at a Hooker Avenue apartment building just after midnight on Thursday and a two alarm blaze on Gerald Drive about 5 p.m. the same day. Mrs. Decker was employed by Hyman Dress Factory and Eden Park Nursing Home. She retired in 1985.

She loved to play bingo. Born in Poughkeepsie on Feb. 22, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Evelyn Rozell VanTassell. She attended Poughkeepsie Schools. In 1945 she married Kenneth Jay Decker in Poughkeepsie.

Mr. Decker predeceased her on Sept 7, 1967. Survivors include three Sons, Kenneth Jay Decker, Jr. William Decker and Louis John Decker, all of Poughkeepsie; one daughter, Carol Cuomo of Highland; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Charles VanTassell of Poughkeepsie; and one sister, Helen Decker of Millbrook. She was predeceased by one daughter, Barbara Decker.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at 10.00 ajn. at Lloyd Cemetery, Highland Judith Petralia will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph J. Darrow, Sr.

She attended Laguardia High School of Music and Arts, Hunter College and Vassar College, majoring in music and physical education. On July 9, 1950 she married John J. Stech, Jr.

in Highland Falls, NY Mr. Stech predeceased her on December 7,1981. Survivors include her sons, John J. and Toni Ann Stech of Poughkeepsie and William J. and Joyce Stech of Martinville, VA; daughter, Janne Gau vin and her husband, Paul, of Clifton Park, NY; her mother, Josephine Panepinto; aunts, Sarah Marchese and cousins, Dorothy Desano, Thomas Desano, and Josephine and Anthony Richar di; grandchildren, Jamie Marie, Nicholas Angel, and Jonathan Stech and Albert J.

A lifelong 'resi dent of the Village of Rhinebeck, Gene was born February 13, 1918, in Switzerland, the son of the late Frank and Marie (Bauer) Trombini. He came to Rhinebeck when he was 4 years old.

Gene devoted his life to serving the Town' of Rhinebeck that he loved so much. He was the Superintendent of Highways for the town for 26 years, and he Served as a Village of Rhinebeck Trustee for 13 years. He also served as the Treasurer of the Dutchess County Association of Town Highway Superintendents. He was a Life Member of the Rhinebeck Fire Department served on the Board of the Rhinebeck Cemetery, was a founding member of the Rhinebeck Rescue Squad and served on the squad for 17 years, a member of the Rhinebeck Grange, and the Rhinebeck Museum of History. On March 1, 1969, he was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame, and was the State Champion for Horseshoes.

Together with his brothers, he owned and operated Trombini Brothers Florist one of the largest violet growers in the world for 44 years. On January 19, 1942 in German town, NY, he married Dorothy Rush more. Mrs. Trombini survives him at home.
