10 Poughkeepsia Journal Saturday, June 25, 1983 '64 GOP vice presidential candidate, William E. Miller, 69, dies in Buffalo Obifuories Walter Fedrowitz BUFFALO, N.Y. AP) William E. Miller, a Republican who slipped into political obscurity after an unsuccessful run for vice president with GOP presidential nominee Barry Goldwater in 1964, died Friday at the age of 69. "Bill lived his life the way I think all people should live their lives, Goldwater said, "with the idea to serve his fellow man his fellow woman and I think he did an admirable job of it." "He was one of the greatest men I have ever known and 1 feel his loss very deeply," the Arizona Republican said in Washington.

Goldwater said Miller was "a hell of a gin rummy player and a good poker player. He was the kind of a man other men like to be with." Miller died at 3 45 a.m. at Millard Fillmore Hospital where he had been admitted June 5 for diagnostic tests. Hospital spokesman Bob Pope said Miller was in fair condition when admitted, but his condition worsened after he suffered a stroke last week end. Anna Mae Rifenburgh RHINEBECK Anna Mae Rifenburgh, 74. a lifelong resident of Rhin ebeck, died Thursday at Northern Dutchess Hospital. Mrs.

Rifenburgh was a resident of 24 Oak St. She was a member of the Montgomery American Legion Post No. 429 Ladies' Auxiliary. Mrs. ifenburghwas born Nov.

13. 1908, in Rhinebeck. the daughter of John A. and Annie VanBramer Churchill. She was married to Roy Rifenburgh.

who died June 26. 1980. Mrs. Rifenburgh is survived by a daughter. Virginia Ayvaliotis, of Sau gerties; two sisters.

Niram J. McCormick HYDE PARK Niram J. McCormick. 66. former owner of McCormick and Sons Roofers, died Friday at St.

Francis Hospital. Mr. McCormick. of East Dorsey Lane, had been a resident of the community for 39 years. He retired as a custodian from Arlington High School in 1980 and was working part time at Karsen's Auto Parts in Arlington.

He was a mejnber of the dart ball league for the Dutch Arms Church and Lodge No. 21 of the Odd Fellows; and a member of the Civil Service Employees retirement organization. Mr. McCormick was born Jan. 1.

1917, in Pine Plains, the son of Clifford McCormick, of Millbrook, and the.late Marion Elliott McCormick. He was married Jan. 16. 1938, in Pine Plains, to Geraldine Teats, who survives. In addition to his wife, Mr.

McCormick is survived by a son. Donald McCormick. of New Hamburg; a sister. Lela Karn, of Millbrook; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Lisante A Goldwater aide once said that among Goldwater's reasons for choosing Miller was that "the senator wanted somebody who would go out and break his back campaigning for 90 days. He knew Miller fit this requirement." Another reason, the aide said, was that Miller "drives (President) Johnson nuts." They lost the general election to President Lyndon B. Johnson and Vice President Hubert Humphrey.

After that Miller returned to his nearby hometown of Lockport and resumed practicing law with a Buffalo legal firm and never returned to national political prominence. Miller is survived by his wife Stephanie Wagner, whom he met when she appeared as a witness at one of his first court cases, one son, three daughters and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Lockport. Burial will follow Tuesday at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

Donald A. Dwyer HOPEWELL JUNCTION Donald A. Dwyer, S3, body shop manager for Kurland Cadillac Oldsmobile in Nanuet (Rockland County), died Friday at Westchester County Medical Center. Valhalla. Mr.

Dwyer, of Elkridge Road, had been a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1976. He formerly lived in Yon kers. He served in the U.S. Army 181st Airborne Division during the Korean War. He was a member of St.

Denis St. Columba Church, Hopewell Junction. Mr. Dwyer was born Feb. 8, 1930, in Beaver Falls, the son of William and Mary Anne Eichenberger Dwyer.

He was married to the former Josephine Heller, who survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Dwyer is survived by two sons, Thomas Dwyer and Gary Dwyer. both of Hopewell Junction; a daughter. Patricia Dwyer, of Highland; a brother.

George W. Dwyer. of Ellwood City. two sisters. Maryanne Cole, of New Brighton, and Constance Shansky, of Beaver Falls.

64. an employee of IBM Poughkeepsie for 20 years, died Thursday at Salem (N.J.) Memorial Hospital. Mr. Fedrowitz. of 68 Edgehill Drive, had been a resident of the community since 1961.

He served as a staff sergeant In the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Fedrowitz was born April 26, 1919, in Jersey City, N.J.. the son of Frederick and Emily Dowedeit Fedrowitz.

He was married in 1946 in New Jersey to Jaraine Kobylarz, who died in November 1981. Mr. Fedrowitz is survived by two sons, Peter J. Fedrowitz. French town.

and James W. Fedrowitz, of Burke, a sister, Lena "Wanda" Sangnier, of Oregon; and a brother, Edward Fedrowitz, of California. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at the New Hacken sack Reformed Church.

Hansen. 66, a therapy aide at Hudson River Psychiatric Center until his retirement in I960, died Thursday at home after a long illness. Mr. Hansen had been a resident of the Town of Clinton since 1967. He was an usher and member of the board of directors and building committee for Faith Assembly of God, Poughkeepsie.

He served in the Norwegian Navy. Mr. Hansen was born April 17, 1917, in Norway, the son of Hans and Pe trine Elise Christian. He was married in 1945 in Brook lyn to Viola A. Aurigemma, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hansen is survived by two brothers. Einar Hansen and Aksel Hansen, both of Norway; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Sweet's Funeral Home, 29 S.

(AP) Jonathan "Jack" Latimer, a writer for the "Perry Mason" television series and a best selling mystery writer, died after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 76. Latimer died Thursday at his La Jolla home, said his friend Howard Chernoff, a retired foreign service officer. Mr Ross was born Nov. 25. 1895. in Terra Nova, Italy, the son of Frank and Fannie Emmet Ross. He was married April 30, 1923, in Middletown to Mary Velley, who survives.

In addition to his wife in Kent Nurs Ing Home, Mr. Ross Is survived by a sister in law, Lucella Jarvis, of Staatsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
