Bohlinger said the Earth Day event at the' college is also intended to send a message to the president and lawmakers. "We also have a giant petition for everyone to sign and they will gather for a photo with the petition that will be sent to President Bush and Congress, asking them to support the Safe Climate Act supported by California representative Waxman. The idea of the act is to encourage people economically and with tax incentives to pursue alternative energy fuel sources to reduce emissions to pre 1990 levels," she said. Bohlinger said information will be offered at the event about how global warming will affect the Hudson Valley. BioTour offers a multimedia presentation on climate change and peak oil, putting these issues into context relevant to average Americans.

According to the BioTour Web site, the BioTour bus runs efficiently on waste vegetable oil with only slight modifications to the fuel system that filters and heats waste vegetable oil from restaurants. The bus also uses biodiesel, a vegetable oil that has been chemically altered to lower the viscosity and allow the thinner fuel to be used in unaltered diesel engines when it warms up the engine. A photovoltaic solar energy system provides electricity to the bus interior to power lights, laptop computers and other electrical devices. In addition to the BioTour bus, Earth Day at DCC will feature additional displays about global warming issues and information on fuel alternatives. Reach Daniel Mclntyre at irncintyrlujpougMee.
