A native of Germany, Mrs. Craft was born Dec. 31, 1866, and came to this country when she was 18 years old. She lived in Hartsdale and then moved to Staatsburg 35 years ago. Her parents were the late Mr.

Merrick Ties Bulk of Fires To Carelessness Poughkeepde Fire Chief Mer rick, yesterday told members ol the Hopewell Kiwanis club that 90 percent of all fires are due to carelessness. The club's luncheon meeting was at the Four Clover inn, Hopewell Junction. Despite an intensive effort by the Poughkeepsie Fire department to educate the public to the danger of careless actions leading to fire, the department has not been able to decrease the number of fires occurrintf in the city. Jobless Rate Drops To 5.8 Percent WASHINGTON (API The unemployment rate fell to 5.8 percent of the work force in January the first time in 16 months it has dropped below six percent.
