((mondayj) ((tuesdayj) (( wed )) AUG. 25, 1980 AUG. 26, 1980 AUG. 27, 1880 Holly Penfield is a fresh new voice in modern music. She is a performer and songwriter whose impressive level of musical craftsmanship is matched by an equal measure of energy and enthusiasm. The title of her first Dreamland Records album Full Grown Child is a succinct description of the lady herself, offstage, that is right up until she picks up a microphone or sits down at the piano. At that moment, the childish, soft-spoken quality evaporates to reveal an intensely dynamic and sensual performer whose energy and abandon has no limits. Holly Penfield The contrast between the private and the professional Holly Penfield is almost schizoid in its proportions, but Holly explains the phenomenon simply: "I act out all my fantasies on stage SUNDAY AUG. 24, 1980 MORNING 6:00 O CHURCH SERVICE fl WORLD THING . 6:30 O CONTACT LIGHT UNTO MY PATH 7:00 tl WHISTLE STOP O TONY BROWN'S JOURNAL fl LIVING WORD fl RAZZMATAZZ OLD TIME GOSPEL HOUR 7:15 fl WITH THIS RING 7:30 tl ARCHIE CAMPBELL SHOW tl NEW WORLD tl GOSPEL SINGING JUBILEE fi HERE AND NOW 8:00 tl GOSPEL SINGING JUBILEE tl JIMMY SWAGGART II AWARENESS '80 COUNT ON ME 8:30 II GOSPEL SING fl LAKE LURE SINGERS DR. I see myself as a color TV; I don't believe in black and white or even shades of gray." Full Grown Child is filled with tunes and lyrics that reveal Koiiy and guitar playerco-writer Gene Bar-kin's abounding respect for a catchy song. Like many of her contemporaries in modern music, Holly relies on infectious melodies and emotionally involving lyrics to form the foundation of her music. She credits a "I see myself as a color TV. I don't believe in black and white or even shades of gray." Holly Penfield measure of her development as a songwriter to her work with Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn. "They really turned around my idea of what a hit song is," she says. The irresistible hooks to be found in such songs as 'Only His Name,' 'Tight Fit,' and 'Souvenirs,' songs that combine a bittersweet quality with an upbeat romantic sentiment, prove that Holly has emerged as a major new songwriter. A vocal coach with whom she was working temporarily diverted her attention to 'legit' theater and, for a time, Holly appeared in such improbable vehicles as local productions of 'The Fantasticks' and a local children's TV show. Her adventurous career than careened from behind the piano of topless bars ("I got to keep my clothes on, but lots of times it felt as if they were off anyway") to the rock club circuit of San Francisco; from a YWCA in New York City to the now defunct but once celebrated stage of Winterland. where her shows with Eddie Money attracted an enormous local audience.
