Pursley, proprietor of the Hub clothing store, several others in Eugene were victinized by Theron James Carlon, known here as James Carlin, who represented himself as an agent of the Sunset Monthly association at Portland, Mr.

Pursley said Thursday. The man showed a certificate, that he was bonded as a salesman, Mr. Pursley said, but the sales association has written Mr. Pursley that Carion was employed but discharged by the firm and has not been a legal representative for sone time. was ordained minister of the Baptist church at an impressive ceremony here Tuesday night. which was attended by a large number of persons from Springfield and other towns of this part of Oregon. The session began in the afternoon with the questioning of Mr. Tobias before the ordination council, which included ministers and laymen from churches in the Willamette valley, Portland and southern and eastern Oregon. Rev.

Rev. Luther was the pastor of the Springfield Baptist church at the time of the conversion of Mr. Tobias. Mr. Tobias continue with his work for the American Sunday School union at present, but he expects to eventually receive charge in the Baptist coference.

METSCHAN WINNER IN TEACHERS' STRAW VOTE SPRINGFIELD. Oct. 30-(Speclal)-Mr. and Mrs. Paul Basford were hosts Tuesday night at A Hallowe en party at their home Springfield in honor of the Springfield school board and the teachers of the three schools.

Halloween decorations were the motif of the party. and the evening was spent in conversation and games. One of the interesting features of the evening was a straw vote on the gubernatorial contest which was conducted by Dr. W. H.

Pollard, chairman of the school board. There were 25 persons present, and the preferential vote cast was as follows: Metschan, 11: Balley. Mrs. Myrtle P. Wilson, and Meler, 3.

Considerable discussion was devoted to wondering whether not this would be the actual proportion in the vote pext week. MARCOLA NEWS MARCOLA, Oct. -N. R. Workman visited the Mohawk high school Wednesday morning and took the census from the different districts.

Several of the civica students of Mohawk high school went to Eugene Tuesday afternoon and took notes on trials held at the courthouse. Those who went were Vivian Troxel, Veneta Ackerson, Vivian Sangren, Delbert Green, James Wald, Vernon Maxwell and Jim Merrwin. The staff for the "Mohawk Kalitian" expects to have the first Issue of the paper out this coming Monday. The Fischer Lumber company has resumed Its railroad construction work and will continue building about a mile of new road. Mr.

Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Clearwater and daughter, Lucille, were Eugene callers Sunday.

The small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Fegles of Fischer's mill fell off the porch of their home Monday morning and cut a gash in her head. She was rushed to Springfield by Mrs. Clearwater and the Wound was dressed.

It was found quite serious. Mra. Earnest Fegles, who has 10r the past few weeks been confined to her home with measles, is able to be out again. A large number of members of the Christian church drove to Creswell Tuesday evening to hear Mr. Parish of Eugene preach.

30 (Spe- clal)-Mrs. Margaret Martin received felicitations Wednesday on the sion of her 71st birthday. She is an Oregonian, born on a farm across the river near Creswell, now owned by W. P. Lower, and has lived practically all her life in Lane county and vicinity.

She has always been inter ested in the progressive things of the community.
