of Civic clubs was received Saturday at the office of Fjeldsted secretary of the association from the Tremonton club The application requested membership the association for 'll member of the club and was accompanied by' a check covering the 25-cent fee for each member This check when accepted by the board of directors of the club will officially open the treasury of the Intermountain Association of Civic clubs The communication was signed by President Green and Vice President Douglas Cannon of the Tremonton club Representatives of the various clubs which have signified intention of joining the new organisation art being named by the clubs as representatives on the board of di rectors Eaoh club ia entitled to one member of the board As soon as the roster of directors is complete a meeting will be called to discuss plans for the opening of the activity of the association President Samuel Powell said A project committee headed by Judge Melvin Harris of Logan preparing to present its opening outline of suggested club projects the opening meeting Mr Powell said (Special to The Tribune) OGDEN Relief families in Weber county who are receiving blankets wool clothing leather jackets and gloves are the beneficiaries of separate processes by six different 'relief agencies The sheep from which the wool and hides wars produced were purchased in-1934 by an agency of the AAA Inspectors from th bureau of animal industry of th agriculture department wer on hand to determine which of the animals were fit for human consumption The animals that were' fit were processed by the Federal Surplus Relief corporation commonly known as th FSRC The pelts of tho animals unfit for food woro pulled and tanned by the ERA and stored The Weber county ERA building contained lOOuOO of tho pelts this year The WPA then formed projects to manufacture leather goods from the pelts Jackets were made under one project and a program is pend ing to make gloves on the Indian reservation at Washakie The wool stripped from the pelts by the ERA was sent to mills to be made into blankets and yardage The WPA used the yardage In another project to make wool clothing Now the canned meat the blankets the wool clothing and the leather goods are all turned over to the state board of public welfare for distribution Special to The Tribuns company No 457 was officially disbanded Friday when department Forest Official Announces Fire Control Meeting Research Activities Will Be Centralized at Spokane Parley (Special to The Tribunt) OGDEN Firt control activities lor tho United States are to be centered In a research laboratory to he established In Spokane Wash during a general tiro meeting there beginning February 10' Roy Head-Jey of Washington assistant forester in charge of fire control bald Saturday Mr Haadley Is conferring hero with officials of region four preparatory to attending the Spokane meeting He also expects to spend 10 days in region five and 10 days in region six studying fire control activities in those areas Spokane has been selected as the site for the central fire control laboratory because it is located in the heart of one of the most threat ened fire regions in the United States and because the forest serv-IVe shops there have already done extensive work in tho development of fire fighting machinery Mr Headley said Concentration Sought The laboratory will mean the concentration' of trained personnel and of technical laboratory equip ment at a single point he said Re search will be carried Out in the dense forest regions of Washington Oregon and California easily accessible from Spokane Intensification of work at tjie laboratory however will not in any way curtail research activities now being carried on locally throughout the country Mr Head-ley said Ideas that have led to some of the most valuable innovations in fire control have been developed by individual foresters and are most successfully carried tb their ultimate development through private research he said At the Spokane meeting fire control officials from all parts of the -country will discuss what projects the new laboratory should undertake and means of organizing research experiments In illustration of the progress of fire control in American 'national forests Mr Headley pointed out that the only three years during which fire losses have been kept -below of one per 'cent have been during the last six New Methods Lauded The increased success in fire corn trol is traced to many new developments in methods among which are the increased use of airplanes development of radio designed for 'use in forest areas Improvement of roads trails and other means of tommunication also the development of machine equipment for trench digging he explained New developments in the field of fire fighting will follow largely along these lines Mr Headley said One of the major aids to fire control in the next few years he said will be an airplane able to Teaches School Special to The Tribune Behring assistant in the mechanical arts department who has charge of the foundry at the Utah State Agricultural college has completed a bronze plaque to commemorate the early pioneers of this part of the state Th plaque will be placed near the Fifth ward church on wood originally used in the first church school and community center for the pioneers of 1865 Mr Behring has been doing work of this nature for 18 years He was born in Philadelphia in 1887 and started to learn the nioldlng trade in Philadelphia at tha age of 20 went from Pennsylvania to California where he had charge of Daniel Best Agricultural works in San Leandro From there he came to Utah and was employed by Silver Brothers Iron Works In Salt Lake City at supervisor From Silver Brothers he went to work for Utah Copper company at Magna He came to Cache valley in 1912 and took hp farming giving up the molding trad as an occupation until 1922 When he accepted an assistantship in the auto mechanics department and in charger of the foundry Flower Garden Gub Reelects President OGDEN A meeting will be held probably this week by the civil service commission and Fire Chief Hinton to discuss means of applying the merit-demerit system which was established in the police department January 1 Chief of Police Rial Moore' indicated that he would recommend merits and demerits for several officers at the next meeting of the comjnission Under the program the civil service commission awards the demerits and merits on recommendation of the chief of police The new program already has resulted in -increased efficiency in the department and will prove successful as an incentive to better performance of duty when it becomes fully in operation Chief Moore said Saturday Special to The Tribune District Judge Harris Saturday denied a motion for new trial in the $60000 damage suit of A Smith against the First National bank of Logan A jury about a month ago brought a verdict of no cause of action in this suit and Mr Spilth filed a motion tor a new trial on th grounds of new evidence Judge Harris also denied th motion for a new trial in the damage suit of Evan Fensky of Wellavllle against City Marshal Leland Maughan of Wellsville in which Fensky was awarded $250 damages against the city marshal on grounds of false arrest and assault and battery The award was mado by a jury last month A motion for a new trial in the damage suit of Carl Pehrson against John Mickelson and Charles Johnson was taken under advise ment by Judge Harris Pehrson was awarded a judgment of $200 following the trial of the case by a Jury and the defendants filed the mo tion on the grounds of discovery of new evidence HUNTINGTON Ross Leonard who last week assumed the robes of
