Call 406-541-0752. For more information, visit By Erin Madison Tribune staff writer MISSOULA The idea for The Silk Road restaurant came to Abe Risho on a long road trip. "It was somewhere between Sacramento and Santa Fe," Risho said. He called his brother, discussed the idea and the two developed a preliminary menu over the phone. In May 2009, The Silk Road, located on Missoula's Hip Strip on Higgins Avenue, opened its doors.

The restaurant serves a variety of tapas-style dishes. Risho and his brother Sam had a hard time settling on one cuisine or even one region of the world to center their menu, so they decided instead to offer a menu that can best be described as "eclectic," Risho said. "It's global cuisine," he said. "It's food from all over the world." And dinner at The Silk Road does feel a lot like a worldwide feast. The menu tells diners the region that inspires each dish, such as Tuna Poke from Hawaii (with wakame seaweed salad, pickled ginger and fresh pineapple-coconut salsa on crispy wonton skins), Kalbi Beef Short Ribs from Korea, House-made Gnocchi from Italy and Fried Dumpling from Spain and Morocco (filled with apple and manchego).

Each dish is small, ranging in price from $4 to about $9, and is meant to be shared. That allows diners to sample a variety of foods and take a global taste tour of sorts. The restaurant's atmosphere adds to the worldly feel of The Silk Road dining experience. Tapestries hang on the walls and tables are covered by maps and postcards. "We've got little artifacts scattered around," Risho said.

"It's warm and inviting." The Silk Road's menu changes about once a month, based on the season See SILK ROAD, 5L Museum tells women's stories Song survey strikes chord with readers By Jake Sorich Tribune Staff Writer Every woman on the planet has a story, and the Museum of Women's History in Billings is dedicated to helping them tell it. Whether young, old, local, foreign, famous or forgotten, the museum has a place for them. "We've never focused on just one niche (of women)," said Bernie Wahl, a volunteer with the Museum Women's of History. "Every woman has a history, and it's important no matter what it is. It has to be told." The Billings museum, which opened in 1995, was established by Dorothy McLaughlin, founder of the Montana Association for Female Executives, the Senior Helping Hands program and the AARP Senior Community Service Project, the first of its kind in Montana.

The museum has a unique shop front which is redesigned each month. This month's display features vintage dolls, particularly those ranging from the early 1900s. The display also serves to promote the museum's upcoming fundraiser event. The fundraiser luncheon is Feb. 2 from 11:30 a.m.

to 2 p.m. at the Highlands Golf Club. Admission is $12 per person. Wahl said a collection of rare dolls will be on display, and guests are welcome to bring their own dolls to be appraised by Joedi Johnson, a doll expert and historian. In addition, they will have dolls available to buy, and Johnson will give a speech about doll history.

Effv writing a verse or two about Great Falls, which has been sorely undersaluted in song (tunes about CM. Russell notwithstanding). Among the write-in votes: "Wylie Gustafson yodeling horseback at Cross Three nothin' better!" and "Ya just can't beat Montana's Native Son! with a vote for Jack Gladstone's "When the Land Belonged to God." Nearly every song on the Tribune's top 45 song list was someone's favorite, even "Montana" sung by John Linnell from They Might Be Giants, which is an awful mess of gibberish. (It doesn't even mention the sky, which must break some songwriter law.) A few people voted a straight Hank Williams Jr. ballot, picking "Montana Song," "Two Dot, Montana," and "Cut Bank, Montana" as their favorites.

Top five Montana songs: 1. "Wild Montana Skies" sung by John Denver and Emmylou Harris 2. "When the Land Belonged to God" by Jack Gladstone 3. "Meet Me in Montana" sung by Marie Osmond and Dan Seals 4. "Big City" sung by Merle Haggard 5.

"My Home's in Montana" sung by Wylie The Wild West See SONG, 5L By Kristen Inbody Tribune Staff Writer The best song about Montana, according to the results of more than 500 votes cast in the Tribune poll this month, by phone, mail and online is John Denver and Emmylou Harris's "Wild Montana Skies." The top tune about a particular place in Montana is Tim Montana's "Butte, America," according to voters. Several people added songs to the Tribune's song list, from Phil Aaberg's "High Plains" to Gladstone's "Buffalo Cafe." George Winston's piano album "Montana: A Love Story" got a write-in vote. One of the most glaring oversights of the original list was Bruce Anfinson's "Montana is Home," which several fans of "Backroads of Montana" on Montana PBS wrote in. "Home is where Montana is, Montana is my home Songwriters and readers love Butte music and added Smokestack and Foothill Fury's "Richest Hill on Earth" and Mark Stap-les's "Mining City Christmas" to the list, which already included the Tim Montana song plus the Decemberists's "Rox in The Box" and "Long-Legged Hannah (from Butte, Montana)" sung by Jesse Hunter. Tim Montana at least entertained the idea, but no songwriter surveyed would commit to A collection of vintage dolls are on display at the Women's Museum of History in Billings.
