Beginning Thursday, Feb. 14, Richard Gladfelter will share his vast collection of vintage valentines at the Lutheran Retirement Village at Utz Terrace. Underground Railroad talk On Saturday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m., Debra McCauslin of Gettysburg will speak at the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg.

Her topic will be Adams County and the Underground Railroad. McCauslin did research on a pre-Civil War African American community that once existed about 10 miles north of Gettysburg on Yellow Hill and found ties with their Quaker neighbors in Menallen Quaker Valley. She compiled her findings and published a book called Hill: Reconstructing the Past Puzzle of a Lost She then nominated three Adams County sites to the National Park National Network to Freedom and the sites were approved for inclusion based on documented evidence that they were involved in the fight for freedom and the Underground Railroad. Then she created the Underground Railroad Tour of Adams County and has provided the tour to groups from across the U.S. and Europe.

Debra McCauslin Classical music to be performed Feb. 22 at Gettysburg College The Verdehr Trio will present a recital of classical music Feb. 22 at Gettysburg College. The 8 p.m. performance will take place in Schmucker Paul Recital Hall, located along North Washington Street.

The Verdehr Trio features Walter Verdehr, violin; Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr, clarinet and Silvia Roederer, piano. The program will feature the works of Gershwin, Higdon, David, Tchaikovsky and Arutiunian. The pieces have all been written or arranged for the Verdehr Trio by Michigan State University, where they are in residence. The performance is free and open to the public. The Verdehr Trio has performed throughout the world in 17 European countries, former Soviet Union, South and Central America, Asia, Australia and all 50 of the United States.

The Trio has appeared at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Library of Congress, Brahmssaal, Sydney Opera House, Wigmore Hall, Auditorio de Madrid, Dvorak Hall in Prague, IRCAM Centre in Paris and Philharmonic Chamber Hall. The Trio has also played at various international festivals and received a creative programming award from Chamber Music America. The group has also commissioned Trio Concertos from Buhr, David, Ott, Skrowaczewski and Wallace, and performed these with Tonkunstler Orchestra, Honolulu Symphony, Prague Chamber Soloists and others. The Verdehr Trio recently released a CD of double concertos for violin and clarinet by James Niblock, William Wallace and Dinos Constantinides. 22 at Gettysburg College. Hersheypark schedules auditions for entertainers HERSHEY, Pa. More than 90 performers and musicians and over a dozen technical positions are needed to entertain guests for the Hersheypark 2008 season. An audition for all performers and technicians is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16 in the Music Box Theatre inside the Park.

Applicants can enter via Service Center Road, just east of the main Park entrance on Hersheypark Drive. Registration and technical interviews begin at 9 a.m. Technical positions include sound and lighting technicians, stagehands, stage managers and wardrobe personnel. Musician auditions for bass, fiddle, guitar, percussion, keyboard, trumpet, trombone, tuba and saxophone (doubling preferred) begin at 9:30 a.m. Musicians should be prepared with scales, an etude, two solo selections of contrasting styles and improvisation.

Singer and auditions begin at 10 a.m. Singers should have a dynamic voice with personality to match and be prepared with two vocal selections of contrasting styles (16 bars each) and bring sheet music in the proper key or an edited musical track. An accompanist will be provided. All singers may be called back to learn a dance combination after their vocal audition. Auditions for dancers and gymnasts are scheduled for 1 p.m.

Dancers should be well-rounded in jazz, ballet and tap and should wear appropriate attire and footwear. Gymnasts should be athletic and have good tumbling skills and should wear appropriate attire and footwear. Award-winning area bead artist Joh Ricci will show students how to create a pattern of their own design, then use seed beads and unique accent beads to weave the pin.

All class materials will be available for purchase during class. class will meet Tuesday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon, March 4 through March 25 at the Imagination Station, located at 18 Carlisle Gettysburg, across from the Majestic Theater. Ricci has been working with hand bead-weaving techniques since 1992. She has exhibited and sold her work at juried art and craft shows along the East Coast and across the Midwest.

She holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from Kutztown University with a concentration in fibers, and has taught bead-weaving classes at the Milwaukee Art Museum, Alverno College and a number of local bead shops.
