10A BURLINGTONFREEPRESS.COMSUNDAY,MARCH1,2015 Voting for Burlington City ouncil will be different his year. nder redistricting the city shifted last year from asystem of seven wards to asystem of eight wards hat belong to four dist ricts. The number of city ouncilors drops from 14 to 12 after the election Tuesday. Each of the new ight wards is represented by a city councilor and ach of the four new districts is represented by a ity councilor. Wards 4 and 7 belong to the North District; Wards 5 and 6 form the South Dist rict; Wards 2 and 3 form he Central District; and ards 1and 8 are in the ast District.

There are races for eight of the 12 seats on the ew council. unning unopposed are i ncumbents Sharon Bushor, an independent, for Ward Max Tracy, a Progressive, for Ward Kar en Paul, a Democrat for ard and Joan Shannon, a Democrat and current president of the council, for the South District. Incumbents not run- ing are: Vince Brennan and Rachel Siegel, Pro- ressives representing Ward Norm Blais, Demo crat representing Ward Bianka Legrand, Democrat representing Ward 7. The contested races: I Ward 3 two would-be ewcomers to the council a re competing for a slot. Sara Giannoni is a Pro- ressive; Sarah McCall is a emocrat.

In Ward 4, Jim Holway, a Democrat, is challenging i ncumbent Kurt Wright, a Republican. I Ward 5, Mike Fife, a rogressive, is challeng- i ng incumbent William Mason, a Democrat. I Ward 7: Michael Ly, a epublican, is challenging i ncumbent Tom Ayres, a Democrat. In Ward 8, Brock Gibian, a Democrat, is run- ing against Adam Roof, a independent. I the Central District Ron Ruloff, an independent, is challenging incumbent Jane Knodell, a Pro- ressive.

In the East District, armen Scoles, a Democrat, is challenging incum- ent Selene Colburn, a Progressive. In the North District, Carmen George, a Demo- rat, is challenging incum- ent Dave Hartnett.
