RESTAURANT INSPECTIONS Here are the Metro Health Department's restaurant inspection scores for the week of Aug. 6. The highest possible score is 100. RUTHERFORD Agreement reached on road widening MURFREESBORO The city's Planning Commission last night unanimously agreed to abandon a road-widening plan that many residents and preservationists had feared would speed development near the Stones River National Battlefield. Instead, the commission unanimously adopted a plan to build a new four-lane road south of the Civil War site.

Previous plans had called for widening a stretch of Manson Pike, a two-lane road running through farmland where the battle site was located. At a public hearing last night, residents who spoke called the new plan a compromise. "I see this as a win-win-win situation for everybody," said John Long, of 2627 Manson Pike. The new road, about 3.5 miles long, would link a proposed Interstate 24 interchange at Manson Pike to the eastern edge of property owned by the city on Thompson Lane. The four-lane road would continue east from Thompson Lane to Broad Street.

Officials have projected the cost of the suggested route to be about $19.4 million. The City Council will now consider the project.
