HIGH SCHOOLS Superspeedway expansion on a fast track Plans for more suites and seats are already in place 7,000 seats the 16th consecutive year of expansion. That will bring the track's seating to 140,000, with an ultimate goal of 170,000. Cliff Hawks, Nashville Super-speedway's vice president and general manager, said more luxury suites will be added for the 2002 season to accommodate a growing waiting list.

The track will open with 24 luxury suites which seat from 30 to 60 and lease for $40,000 to $60,000 per year, depending on meet the demand." The 13-mile track is designed to accommodate as many as 150,000 seats, but that many probably won't be needed unless the track secures a Winston Cup race. McGlynn said he remains confident the Nashville track eventually will get one of ASC AR's big-league races. But he reiterated that he will not move one of the two Winston Cup races from his track in Dover, Del, to Nashville Superspeedway. Dover Downs Speedway, in fact, is in the process of adding The 24 available suites were grabbed up as soon as they went on sale last fall, and at least eight prospective buyers are on a waiting list for additional suites when they are built, Hawks said. "We'll decide how many more we want to add after our April race.

"Right now our main focus is to have everything ready for that first race. Then we'll see where we want to go from there." Larry Woody writes about auto racing at www tennessean.com. Encouraged by an outpouring of early interest, developers said they already are planning to add more seats and suites at the $125 million racing complex in Wilson County by next year. There will be 50,000 seats in place for the inaugural race at the ets have been sold, however.

"We've had a tremendous response so far, and frankly, it's exactly what we anticipated when we chose NashvilleMiddle Tennessee for our track site," McGlynn said. McGlynn said how many seats are added for 2002 will depend on demand. "We'll let the market determine that. The fans will let us know how many more seats we need, and we are prepared to quickly track April 14. Denis McGlynn, president and CEO of Dover Downs Entertainment, which is heading up the project, said plans are in the works to add more seats for the 2002 season.

McGlynn yesterday predicted at least two of this season's four main events will be sold out: the April 14 NACAR Busch race and the July 21 Indy Racing League Northern Lights Series event He would not reveal how many tick- Point guard Moore is making points Best passing big men in the post Prep Insider AndHiwiNes i tv record: Upperman junior Amanda Austin broke her own schxl record for 3-point baskets last week with 12 against Sequatchie County. He had 38 points against Mt Juliet and 40 against Hunters Lane last week. Moore, who had a 46-point game earlier in the seasoa scored 23 on Friday in a two-point loss to Maplewood He's averaging 252 points per game.

"We know he's capable," Antioch Coach Todd Wiggington said. "He's got a good percentage, and, for the most part, they are good shots. "We shift him a little and let some other guys handle it, but we still want Mario handling the balL" In the game before his 38-point effort, Moore, who has been recruited by Vandy as a point guard, had 17 points and 11 assists. "It's in the process of changing," Moore said of his role. "Some teams have point guards that are no threat and you can back off them.

If you can shoot and drive and create, if a plus if you can stay within the offense." Jones, Sayden top fst Montgomery Bell Academy junior infielder Warner Jones and Oakland senior outfielder Jeremy Slayden are the top two choices in Collegiate Baseball's Jaa 26 issue as the best high school players in Tennessee. Preps: Brothers are inspired by youngest sibling 1 1. Ben Sage, 6-foot-6, Smyrna: "He does a great job of seeing where the double team is coming from and finding the right person," Smyrna Coach Billy Mooney said.

"And our press offense goes through him as well we break pressure with our big man because he can handle the ball so well. He's the best outlet passer I've ever coached." Said Gallatin Coach Bobby Luna "You can't just double-down on him because of his passing ability." 2. Mark Kirby, 6-7, White County. "He's one of those players who looks to pass first and score second. He gets the ball to the open man on the perimeter and gives us open looks, and he's really improved his passing on the interior," White County Coach Roy Whited said.

3. Matt Jarboe, 6-7, Eagleville: "They have to double-and triple-team him and when he is, he passes out of it and we'll get open 3-point shots or a lot of dump-downs in the low post," Eagleville Coach William Tollett said. "And he's the best big man I've seen passing in transition." 4. Ben Roy, 6-4, Oakland: "They pop Ben out quite a bit and feed the ball to Drew quite a bit," said Lebanon Coach Randall Hutto, referring to Ben's twin-brother, Drew Roy. "So he has a tot of work at it.

He's mobile, has good hands, sees the floor and sees the cutter." 5. Robert Garrett, 6-3, Antioch: "That's one of his best attributes," Antioch Coach Todd Wigginton said. "At the next level, he's going to play on the perimeter anyway. When he flashes into the mid to high post, if they double down, he'll pass. He's our second- leading assist guy; if anything, sometimes he overpasses." 6.

Wesley Morgan, 7-2, Gallatin: "When most big guys get the ball inside they took to shoot it, but if he doesn't have a real good shot he looks for guys to get the ball back out to and he's a pretty good passer," Hunters Lane Coach Carlton Collier said. Said Luna: "Anytime we flash him to the high post, he does a nice job of turning and finding people to pass to. And if people are pressing us, we usually put him in the second line and he does a nice job of getting it up the floor." 7. (tie) Brandon Turner, 6-6, Jo Byms: "Last year he gave the ball up too much. He averaged more assists than my guards," Coach Ronny Carlisle said of his center, who averages 23.7 ppg.

"This year we want him to score, so we dont emphasize it as much. But his unique passing and ball-handling skills have made him an outside threat as well as an inside one." 7. (tie) Brian Smith, 6-4, and Terrance Kennedy, 6-2, Maplewood: "Brian is a strong kid who plays under the basket. He and Terrance, who is our power forward, work very well together passing the ball," Maplewood Coach Winston Gamble said. "And they kick it back out well, too, which opens it up for the 3-point shooters, and we've got some good ones." 7.

(tie) Robert Williams, 6-3, Dickson County: "He's sound fundamentally, and he knows his role," Northeast Coach Al Cooper said. "He's a good passer whether it's an outlet after a rebound or relieving pressure and getting it to guards safely." Hasan Rasheed. He said being around top perimeter players has helped his all-around game. "It's amazing how much he has improved," Josh said. "He has learned to use his body and now he weighs a lot more.

"Boomer has a lot of natural ability. He's an awesome player. And if I never get to that point, it's still good. As far as sports go, it's important for me to work hard to set an example. If he gets a scholarship and I don't, well, I'm going to go watch him every game and smile." At the core of the Herndons is a strong Christian faith with which Gary and his wife, Lynette, have raised their four sons.

"That's instilled in us; the reason we aren't rivals is God," Josh said. "They have a great relationship, and I believe that is because they are grounded in Christ's love," Gary said. "One of the goals for Joey is to be as normal as possible because of the social Issues he would face otherwise if he went through life as a typically autistic child. They take it very personally to see he grows up as normal as possible. "1 have four kids who are happy, healthy and well-adjusted, and it has very little to do with me.

There is no other word than just blessed." former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiasoa played Josh in too many one-on-one games to count on a hoop in the family driveway that's now brokea But Boomer said his improvement has come by continually playing better competitioa whether it be his brother or AAU basketball during the summer. "He wants me to be the best I caa" Boomer said of his older brother. "I grew up always playing someone better, which has helped me. Until the ninth grade, Josh was always bigger and he was my moti-vatioa He's always supported me. We're not competing." "Josh is unusual, a pure warrior," Frensley said.

"Having a brother myself who's 14 months younger, I know about the competitioa It can be awesome, really. The best thing about Josh is the effort he shows Boomer. We tell Bwmer, give the effort your brother gives." Last summer, Josh and Boomer went to AAU national tournaments. Josh played with the Nashville Royals 18-under team, and Boomer played with the Tennessee Thunder 17-under squad. Boomer played center on a team that included some of the top junior guards, such as Maplewood's Spencer Richardsoa Father Ryan's Billy May and Whites Creek's Boomer's rise as a basketball player doesn't compare to some of the miraculous developments in Joey's life, but it has been very impressive just the same.

"He's gotten a lot stronger and more coordinated," DCA Coach Tommy Frensley said. "If he makes the same improvement he did from this year to next year, I think he has the opportunity to play. It's up to him whether he'll go small or Division I think he has the tools good hands, footwork. The biggest thing now is how hard he works." Josh will see that Boomer works. Always tall, Boomer had the typical awkwardness as an athlete growing up.

But he also has been on the receiving end of special interest shown by a brother, as Josh has selflessly helped push Boomer. Josh understands that Boomer's height may provide opportunities he himself may never get. "I could be jealous, but that would get me nowhere," Josh said. "But to be supportive, that will get me everywhere. If I don't fulfill my dreams, I still want Boomer to pursue his, and I'm going to push him." Boomer, who got his nickname as a junior pro football player after BILL STEBER STAFF DCA's Boomer Hemdon has risen to become one of the top centers in the Midstate.
