Born June 4, 1923 in Philadelphia, TN. He was an Architect licensed in Tennessee and Kentucky. Survived by his wife, Jacqueline Carter whom he was married to for over fifty years; daughter, Tamara Gay Carter and son-inlaw, Jeff Lodge of Richmond, brothers, Jack and Harry Carter. Preceded in death by his parents, Anna Mae and William Jackson Carter. He was a Member of Forest Hills Baptist Church which he designed.

He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant J.G. in World War 11, was educated at Loudon High School, Hiwasee College, Commercial Arts School, U.S. Navy Signal School and Harvard University Electronics. He was a 1948 graduate of University of North Carolina and did graduate work at Georgia Tech. He worked with Thomas W.

Gardner Architects, Howard Hickerson and Jordan, Hart-Freeland Roberts and was the Owner of the practice of Gil Carter and Associates from 1955 to the present. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, April :21, 1999 at Forest Hills Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior to service.
