The Nighthawks radio rights are still being negotiated. Johnson, 26, was the man for the ECHL's Mobile Mys-, ticks last year. "The funny thing is I talked with my catcher during the game and over the last month I have been consistent," Helling said. "But tonight my fastball didn't seem to have the velocity it usually does and my breaking ball didn't start getting better until the fourth inning." Oklahoma City, the Texas Rangers' Triple A farm-club, got one run in the first inning and that was all Helling needed as he mowed down the Sounds for the first perfect game ever. The 89ers added two runs in the fourth inning on Lee Stevens' 29th homer of the season and one in the seventh as Helling struck out four batters over the nine innings. "You have to tip your hat to the young man," said Sounds manager Rick Renick. "What can you say about being perfect? He was perfect" .536 Omaha (Royals) Okla.

By ANDY HUMBLES Sports Writer By choosing the nickname Night-hawks yesterday, Nashville's new Central Hockey League team isn't forgetting its East Coast Hockey League predecessors. "The Knights did a tremendous job in bringing hockey back when it was really dormant in Nashville seven years ago," Nighthawks General Manager Mark Hollingsworth said. "So the name is a little bit of a tip of the hat to the Knights, yet we wanted to open a new chapter." Hollingsworth said the nickname and logo also represent the "kind of intensity and aggressive style," the Nighthawks want to play with. In a Name the Team contest, Hollingsworth said he received more than 440 ideas from nearly 1,000 people. Nineteen sent in the Nighthawks nickname, and Sherry Poe won the grand prize of two season tickets and two Nighthawks jerseys in a random drawing.

"I liked the Knights when they were here and the Chicago Black-hawks and put them together," Poe said. The Nighthawks' primary colors will be deep red and royal blue with gold and white trim. The logo on merchandise isn't available yet because of the late start in coming to Nashville, but Hollingsworth says it's coming. Iowa (Cubs) 54 71 .432 13 N.
