By the time the game actually arrives, Tennessee will have practiced on 14 of those days, and on several of them twice. That's roughly three times the amount of work that the Volunteers get for a normal opponent. And that's with nearly two weeks off between the SEC title game and the resumption of workouts. How does Tennessee Coach Phillip Fulmer keep the players from getting bored and the enthusiasm from getting stale? "We have been really short and crisp with everything," Fulmer said. "The meetings have been the same The Vols have averaged 211 yards rushing and have relied on their running game to stoke the offense.

Florida State allows just 79.8 yards a game on the ground. "They have a lot of depth and quickness," Fulmer said. "Like us, they play a lot of guys. They are going to be very difficult for us to handle." But Fulmer doesn't see Tennessee changing the offensive line rotation to offset anything the Semi-noles do. "We'll stick with the same six, seven, eight offensive linemen we have been using all season." Two-a-days over: Tennessee practiced twice yesterday, the last of the two-a-day sessions.

The Vols were scheduled to work out this morning, then break up for the holidays. way. We have gotten a lot of individual work and a lot of work with the young players. That's one of the benefits of having a bowl game at all is the time with them. They have benefited from it." But the veterans have been getting their share of practice time as well, and as a result, Tennessee will reassemble on Dec.

26 in Tempe, with more work finished than the coaches had projected. "We are probably ahead of schedule," Fulmer said. "The kids are ready to do something else, like go play a football game. It's amazing that we have this long yet before we play." Barry understood. In less than a year, Coleman had switched lides of the ball and then switched positions, and his confidence was understandably shaky. "At first, he was apprehensive," Barry said. "But he did more things in the Syracuse game like it was natural than I have ever seen a guy do.

He's got a great memory. Coleman, though, is happy to just be reliable. "I'm more confident this year than last year," Coleman said. "Last year I might have been out there playing, but I wasn't the dependable one on the line. Now I consider myself the one who's going to step up and do the job.

"I want to be the one who can be counted "All I wanted was a legitimate shot at defense," Coleman said. "And actually, I went to the coaching staff about making the move." He went to offensive tackle, where he was starting by the seventh game of last season. But before spring practice this year, Tennessee brought in Mike Barry to coach the offensive line and he decided it was time to mix and match on the offensive line. Several players switched positions in the spring, and Coleman suddenly found himself at guard. "When they first brought it to my attention, I wasn't really up for it," Coleman said.

"1 was down about it. It was the best move for the team, though, so I went ahead and made what I thought was a sacrifice, and through practicing and playing, I 6-0 1,226 8 11-1 1,216 8 11-2 1,060 10 10:15.25, Andrea Bennett (PACK) 10.03.05, 1,650 free 13-14) Bridged Belyea (RCA) 1,650 free-Julia Slowers (PACK) 100-back-M. However, he showed up as a freshman for the second session of summer school with 330 flabby pounds on his 6-foot-6 frame, not exactly the kind of bulk the Tennessee coaches like to see on tackles who depend on quickness almost as much as size. But they let him stay at the position while he struggled to lose weight and make an impact, and it didn't take long for Coleman to realize his talents would be realized at another position. By the time last season started, he was ready to switch sides of the ball.
