RECORD AMUSEMENT MARKET ANNE BAXTER is shown here with Sonny Tufts, Sterling Hayden, William Holden and Johnny Sands in a scene from "Blaze of Noon," the air mail service story, which opens for a late show tonight at the Playhouse. Outstanding Pictures Of Week Picturization of Ernest K. Gann's best-selling novel of the pioneer days of the air mail, "Blaze of Noon," is the next attraction at Playhouse theater.

The film is due to arrive tonight for a late sfaow, with Anne Baxter, Sonny Tufts, William Sterling Hayden and Howard'DaSilva in starring roles. The story of "Blaze of Noon," based on the actual history of the air mail, concerns the "Four Flying McDonalds." who give up barnstorming wath carnivals to join the first commercial air mail line. It deals with the hardships and dangers they encounter, and the sacrifices they make, as they pave the way for the fast, safe and time-saving mail flying of today. Interwoven throughout this story is the romance of Holden and Miss Baxter, the latter playing a girl who marries one of the brothers only to learn that she is wed to the whole family and their love for flying. For Miss Baxter, it is a dramaiic role, a worthy successor to the one in which she scored so sensationally in "The Razor's Edge." For William Holden and Sterling Hayden, "Blaze of Noon" serves as their post-war debut, both being veterans of many years service in the armed forces.

The film also marks the elevation to stardom for character actor Howard DaSilva, whose outstanding performance in "Two Years Before the Mast" earned him the new rating. Featured in important roles in "Blaze of Noon'' are Johnny Sands, Jean Wallace and Edith King, the latter recruited from the Broadway stage. This picture has the heart-warmin? appeal as did "The Sullivans" back in 1943. It is wonderful family entertainment. Tense emotional conflict per- menates "The Woman on the Beach." starriiii Joan Bennett, Bobert Ryan and Charles Rickford.

It is the dramatic story of a woman and two men whom destiny has thrown together on an isolated rock-bound sea Miss Bennett portrays the wife of an artist, played by Bickford, who is totally blind. Ryan is a young coast guard intrigued by Miss Bennett's sultry beauty and her appeals to his chivalry, forgets about his love for a girl in a neighboring fishing village. He also conceives a dangerous hatred for the artist, who is accused of brutality by his wife. Such a situation can lead only to a violent emotional explosion. It is strong, dynamite-packed drama.

Nan Leslie, Walter Sande, Irene Ryan, Frank Darien and Glenn Veron are in the supporting roles. This photoplay was taken from the novel "None So Blind" by Mitchell Wilson. Film Stresses Soil Fertility "How to Live Without Money" might well be the sub-title of Metro Goldwyn Mayer's new Theater of Life fact-film. "Give Us the Earth." coming next Wednesday and Thursday to the Playhouse.

For this real-life story illustrated clearly the oft-repeated fact that any country's greatest wealth lies in its land; and that people who live on the land can literally live without money. When and if economic depressions the farmer is always in a better situation than his urban cousins, for he finds his wealth is the fertility of the soul. "Give Us the Earth" examines dramatically the undisputable fact that the present population of the world exceeds the available food supply and that immediate and drastic measures must be taken if the world is to continue to eat. The answer to this most vital problem lies in the thin layer of some eight inches of topsoil which covers the surface of the earth. When this is gonei the specter of hunger threatens mankind.

Therefore, the rehabilitation of eroded soil. and new methods of cultivation to increase productivity of eroded soil, and the method's of cultivation to increase productivity of the land, are of the utmost film illustrates the things that can be done to make depleted land productive once again.
