PAGE EIGHTEEN THE HOLLAND, MICHIGAN, EVENING SENTINEL WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 1970 Commission Starts Study Of Budget GRAND HAVEN The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners today started its annual task of poring over the annual general operations budget. Chairman Franklin Schmidt of the ways and means committee Tuesday finished the proposed budget for 1971 and it was presented to the board at today's session. Each year the adoption of the budget is the major task of the board at the long October session. The board vill meet again next Monday. Tuesday's session of the board was calm comp9red with the stormy meeting Monday, when 30 residents of Olive township mostly irate housewives, descended on the board to protest the location of a major sanitary landfill, termed an "unsanitary dump" by one of the township residents.

The north part of the county will be without a dumping ground for at least another 30 days. Grand Haven's large landfill on Harbor Island was closed July 1 and since then local residents have been forced to take material to the county landfill in Park township. The odor from the 30,000 laying hens in the coop is sickening, he said, and a health menace. Residents nearby must keep doors and windows closed, he said.

The problem was referred to the health committee as it must be ascertained whether or cot such an operation is a public nuisance. Improvements to the home of the caretaker at Camp Pottawatomie in Grand Haven township are needed and the camp committee was authorized to take birds on repairs to windows and other worn out parts of the home. The ways and means committee was instructed to recondition and purchase 10 toilets for the cells in the jail at a cost of Upper Peninsula Car-Truck Crash Claims 2 Youths WALLACE (UPI) Two Menominee youths were killed and three other persons injured a afternoon in a car-truck collision on U.S. 41 about two miles north of this western Upper Peninsula community. Cigarettes No. 4 If You Must Smoke Deeper puffs are less harmful taken right after lighting up, and not when almost finished. The butt contains about twice the amount of tar as that up front. In addition, smoke more leisurely, taking fewer and shorter puffs. Avoid inhaling because the most objectionable feature of smoking occurs when smoke condensates on and irritates the bronchial membranes.

A well-known New York chest surgeon Dr. Alvin Barach, offered a plan that sounds logical. Noninhalers usually draw smoke into the mouth and promptly blow it out. He suggests closing the lips after drawing in the smoke and inhaling through the nose. When this is done, the air goes into the lungs, while the smoke remains in the mouth.

The lips are opened and the smoke is exhaled. The CANCER SOCIETY says "OVER 100,000 DOCTORS HAVE QUIT SMOKING." DO THEY KNOW SOMETHING WE DON'T? Assail Nixon's Veto of Campaign Fund Limit Bill DETROIT (UPI) -President Nixon's veto of a bill which would have limited campaign expenditures brought sharp criticism Tuesday from two Democratic candidates for statewide office. In separate statements, Sander Levin, candidate for governor, and Richard Austin, candidate for secretary of state, urged Sen. Robert P. Griffin, to vote to override the President's veto. In his veto message to Congress, the President said he vetoed the measure because it "does not limit the overall cost of campaigning.

It merely limits the amount that candidates can spend on radio and television." It would take a two-thirds vote in each house of Congress to 'override the President's veto.
